We want to drive to Central Coast of NSW but we are not confident to negotiate heavy traffic in this area. Does anyone have any suggestions, possibly leave van somewhere quieter for a couple of weeks and just travel by car? Any other suggestions?

It will help if we know where you are coming from, and where you want to go. I live on the Central Coast and the traffic is nothing to worry about. Everywhere gets busy now and then. Sydney is worse.

Agreed, nothing wrong with the traffic on the Central Coast. No more problems here than in a large country town. Give us some more clues and we can direct you to a good caravan park that is easy to get to.

Sorry I didn't give sufficient details, dur! We are planning to tour from Perth. We are visiting family in Umina, as we have many times before, but never with the van. We agree that the traffic in Sydney is even worse, but driver is still apprehensive about Central Coast.
Thanks for your interest and looking forward to further contact.

There is a great caravan park in Umina and to get there, there is virtually no major traffic to drive through.

I used to live just up the road.

You are worrying about nothing.

We have towed our van through the Central Coast a number of times, and haven't had any problems, wouldn't worry about it, just do it.

There is a caravan storage area at Tuggerah but there may also be others closer to Umina.

The one at Tuggerah is very easy to get to. Turn off the M1 freeway to Wyong then go down hill in a straight line for about two ks past the big shopping center then over the railway bridge near Tuggerah station. Turn left at the next roundabout which is only a few hundred meters away and you will see it almost immediately on the right hand side of the road opposite Bunnings.

A long way further north of Umina - a good 40km so 80km round trip.

Better off exiting the M1 at the Gosford turnoff and down the hill to West Gosford then straight through to Umina via Brisbane Water Drive - virtually no traffic to deal with and no need to go anywhere near the Gosford CBD.

Re the caravan storage area at Tuggerah.

Just be aware that the roundabout you have to enter and that exact stretch of road is by far the most congested and difficult to negotiate of any at the Central Coast.

Avoid morning and afternoon peak hour if at all possible.

IMHO the way to get to Umina would be to exit the M1 expressway at the Gosford exit, turn right onto the road to Woy Woy near the Shell station at the top of the hill , and then from Woy Woy to Umina.

This IMHO would present no traffic problems with a caravan with only one steepish down hill to Woy Woy and it avoids nearly all heavy traffic.
