We use the stuff in the white bottle from the camping shop as it's supposed to be safe for the enviroment.

Why would you want to?

The cost of the stuff isnt outrageous, you dont have to worry about exposure/storage/purchasing of chemicals and the formula constituents that you list are not what would be classed as 'environmentally friendly' as pointed out in previous reply.

Do you know what the 'home brew' versions do to the chemical toilet itself?

At least with the 'store bought' stuff you have some idea of its compatability with your toilet.

We have used a make up toilet chemical for quite a while now and it works as good as a bought one. The ingredients are: 1 cup of Borax desolved, 1 cup of Pine o Clean and 1 cup of Cloudy Ammona all mixed together in 5 litres of water.Works as good as anything you can buy and a lot cheaper as well.
