Intending to travel from Leinster to Mount Magnet around the end of June in a Ford RTV Ute and pulling a seventeen foot van. Would appreciate comments on road condition.

Hi Godfrey

Leinster to Mount Magnet is sealed all the way through Sandstone. The road is really easy to drive. The road now bypasses Sandstone, but it is worthwhile stopping for a look. One old pub, old post office and shop, remains of the old water tank towers, maybe the museum will be open and there are some fantastic old houses (at least on of which has been a movie set - there are plaques around the place with info about Sandstones heydays!)

There is a nice lookout / raod side stop for a coffee break about 34 kilometres before Sandstone (Leinster side). I cant recall what it is called but is at location 27 56.35'S 119 37.85E using your GPS. (GDA84)

Hope this helps.

Have a safe trip.

Wayne
Cheers

Hi Godfrey,

We haven't done that trip, but may well be doing it at the same time as you! I don't know whether you have thought of accommodation in Mt. Magnet, but we are staying (and have before) at Wogarno Station, which is 40km south of Mt Magnet. They have accommodation for everything from powered camping site with use of the shearers loos and showers (which are very clean and nice), to full board in the homestead. The property is really fascinating, with some lovely drives to lookouts, and sunset at Wogarno Rock, with a drink in hand, is fantastic.

Happy travels
Anne

Anne,
Thanks for input re accomodation, sounds great. However we will be travelling Leinster to Mt Magnet then heading north to Meekatharra so i think we will be going wrong way to use it.
Godfrey.

did the trip from leinster to kalbarri via magnet christmas time and I can confirm it is top quality bitumen all the way. the road still went thru sandstone and that lookout was worthwhile. If you are going to the coast 2 other spots worth checking out which arnt far off the road are jokers tunnel at yalgoo (for bat lovers) and elendale pool is worth a stop and overnight camp (free legal camping and beutiful waterhole)

Hi Davoe
Thanks for input, where is Elendale Pool, cannot find it on my Hema and sounds as if it is a place we should spend a night at.

elendale pool is not far from geroldton and would be a worthy xcampground with a nice pool with a cliff behind it you can walk down the river a bit and cross it walking around to the cliff and climb it for great views I am at work but can give you more info as to the location tomorrow. It wouldnt surprise me if it wasnt on your hema map as they are greatly overrated most servos (the leinster one does) sell QPA maps which will have the location
