Can anyone tell me from where I could hire a satelite phone for 4 weeks for use in Outback NSW, SA and Central Australia if required.

Ian try the
Police in the area where you are travelling.
Birdsville and
Oodnadatta both hire them and a phone call or two should have you set up with what you need.

Sydney, you may try www.getaway-equipment.com.au who are located in Berowra. It will cost about $20/day from them + calls and you have free pack/unpack days.
