Fellas, relax :)
If you notice now, there is a button, open unread posts, click it once and unread posts open in a thread . . . click it again, opens all posts, and the ones you haven't read have that little revolving circle to indicate these, rather than the arrow that shows ones you have read.
To me this is a great feature, as you don't waste time reading replies you have already.

Yes - the new layout is no improvement. In fact it's a retrograde step.
All the replies are looking like they are trying to load, I'm getting the rotating circle on every heading.
I couldn't see what was wrong with the previous setup, it was easy to scroll through the replies.
I have a smartphone, and it's easy to scroll up or down or sideways just with your finger.
I'm using Chrome and Windows 7 on the desktop, perhaps this new setup works better on Apple products.

Cheers, Ron.

For what it's worth I use pretty much what Ron has said re Chrome and Windows 7.

I guess anything new takes time to get use to, however haveing to open every post to see if what you are going to reply with hasn't already been said. It just seems a little less user friendly. With the old format it was easy to skip down and make sure you were not just repeating what has already been posted.
Other than that maybe we should just give the new format a bit of "getting to know you" time.

Also what happened to the very user friendly spell check facility?

Cheers

The setup might work better if a button was installed, that when clicked, opened all the posts in one hit.
As it stands, it's just plain tedious going down the page and clicking on every persons post, to find out what's in it.
A lack of temporary editing ability to correct errors is still an important function that's missing.
The editing ability can be time limited to say, something like 10 mins to an hour, just to ensure the person posting has a chance to spot any errors that slipped through, and correct them.

Cheers, Ron.

Now you can't easily scan to see what the trend of discussion is and have the ability to comment/correct false info which often happens. The OP is therefore, not able to glean the best possible from the replies.
Maybe I have missed something or not realized how to use it yet.
A bit crazy me thinks.

Dana, have you ever done a MAJOR upgrade of a web page or forum site ?
Things don't always happen right the first time round and do need tweaking.

If you have any experience in doing major upgrades perhaps you could offer some constructive comments and assistance rather than pour cold water on someone else's work..............other than that, just sit back and relax while others work their butts off.

It's actually pretty good, clean, simple and uncluttered.
Once you open the follow up its marked as being read, no additions mean no change to the post notification.

I haven't looked at it via my desktop running Windows 10 as yet, but it's good on the tablet.
Also like the menus as a drop down as it makes the page less busy.
Allround in the few hours it's been running, I like it.

What has happened? I thought the site must have been hacked at first glance. I hope this is a temporary state. It is terrible and tedious having to open every reply. Not user friendly or good readability. Is it is being trialled as an option? Has David been kidnapped by Martians?

Getting better though, being able to open unread posts in a thread is a big start !!
Actually, almost normal now for forum use, obviously blogs and other will follow as soon as it can be done.
If websites aited for everything to be perfect, they'd never get updated !! :)
Oh, and the mobile view (one of the objects of this excercise) looks great now :D

I can see at the thread level what is new and what is not - rotating circles vs arrows but how do I tell which followups I have read or not without going through them - the old colour system while crude was at least functional.

Unread replies have rotating circle, read replies the solid arrow.
Click button up top of thread once (Open unread replies) these come up, click again opens all replies.
If you click it once, you can not waste time re-reading replies, or at least scanning them thinking, did I read that already ??

As Mark Twain famously said: "I'm all for progress, it's change I hate."

Seriously, though, is it possible to open many or all replies at the one time rather than doing so one at a time? I couldn't be bothered opening all the earlier replies to see if somebody else had already used the above quote.

Otherwise, looks good to me.

How do I tell what I have read and not read - all posts have the rotating circle but I have read some of them.

Just bring in a forum format similar to the majority of other forums - because they are basically the same they obviously use the same core software. Why try to re-invent the wheel and give a substandard product - the rest of the ExplorerOz site can remain the same just bring the forum into the 21st century.

Every up date on the forum as it is seems to be a backward step.

It is quite different but I don't find it too bad. Any replies you look at change from the circle to an arrow so you can quickly see what replies you have looked at and don't have to go through them all again if you re-open the post. I find this quite useful especially for the bigger posts like this one.
Perhaps an enhancement would be to open up all the replies you haven't looked at when you open a post, don't know if that is possible?
The site seems quicker so that is better, running it on a Dell XPS with Win10.

That expand un-read / all button is the best thing to be added to the site, it now makes the site a lot more user-friendly.

Thanks, David & Michelle for all your hard work in trying to improve the site for all.
I know it must be hard with the amount of devices that can connect to the 'net today.

In addition, some people are hard to satisfy, and hate change of any kind.
I'm one of them! LOL
However, this upgrade is definitely improving as you tweak it.

The new site is faster overall, and my tired old eyes appreciate the larger font.

Cheers, Ron.

Is it just me but why is there a menu button at the top of the page which you have to click to get the whole menu which is listed single line down the page. Why can't there be a menu bar ar the top of the page. Also what has happened to the blog section which used to be on the RHS of the page, I used to like just looking at that and seeing the latest blogs, can't find it at all now. All in all it's a very difficult navigate for me.
