What type? What happens? Did you just change gas bottles?

Often these things will fail to light if they get air in the gas line. Light the stove for a minute and then KEEP TRYING (maybe 10 or more times) with the HWS and eventually it might be OK.
Check that the cover is off on the outside too (for Trumas) as they will not light if it is on.
