Guys.....

Looking for some info on the road out of Silverton that heads north and eventually follows the SA/NSW border for a little while, then at Hawker Gate turns East and head twds Milparinka.
Has anyone been along this route and is it a well formed dirt road or basically station tracks? Thinking of heading along this road as something different than heading along the normal hwy nth towards the Cnr Country.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Rob

I have driven along the western side of the border via Quinyambie as far as the Tilcha ruins. That road goes all the way through to Cameron Corner.
It is all on private property. Some great country in there.

I have also driven some of the road on the eastern side of the border, but a long time ago, so can't offer any useful information. I presume that is the one you are enquiring about?

Cheers,
Peter

I traveled on this route - well, from Mt Gipps Station & up the dog fence to Cameron Corner - in early Feb 2016.

Roads in very good condition except for a bit of moisture effects east of Hawker Gate; they are formed and signed roads. From Pine View station north the country was in good heart with fat cattle and sheep in good nick.

The station people I met were very friendly and welcoming - I had contacted them for permission to camp and travel through.

The Corner Country website, http://outbacknsw.com.au/, is useful in planning such a trip.

Visit the facebook page also at
https://www.facebook.com/Corner-Country-Outback-New-South-Wales-185258771514435/.

Keep an eye out for Capt Charles Sturt's tracks and camps. You'll cut his tracks and see features named by him all through that region west of the Silver City H'way. He was en-route to the fabled inland sea, which unfortunately failed to materialise.

Not as far as I know,
but to camp I believe it's a matter of courtesy and protecting the future 'right' to travel through these sort of environments.

Roads closed a few days ago Corner Country Road Conditions.

Here is a suggested loop drive incorporating both the normal way and the road that nears the SA border.

A few first hand accounts here Corner Country roads

Certainly drivable in dry weather.
