Hi all. Heading up to the Cape again this year and are looking at going into Lakefield NP this time. Too wet last trip and all roads were closed. Wanting to do it on the way back. Possibly from Archer River Roadhouse through to Old Laura via the turnoff at Musgrave.

Hoping to have a few days in Lakefield and then finish off into Cooktown via Battlecamp.

Can someone give me an idea of the road from Musgrave to Old Laura along the Lakefield Rd past Kalpoar airport? Looks to be about 170k. All depends on the rains etc but is it a slow drive? What are the creek crossings like? A few of us travelling with off road campers and caravans.

Thanks

Great touring track, not difficult and when open the creeks are around 600mm.
North Lakefield normally opens late, as in 1st July.
Kalpowar camp ground is a good place to stop for morning tea or early lunch.
Musgrave to Cooktown can be done in about 3-3.5 hours, but if you look around which is more fun 5-6 is about right.

Thanks Tony. Is that 3.5 hrs from Musgrave to Cooktown via the Lakefield track, Old Laura and Battlecamp? Google maps shows that route about 280k. 3.5hrs seems a bit light
