Probably the Gary Junction Road to Marble Bar and then south.

The shortest route is Gary Junction Road to Kunawaritji, Canning Stock Route to Georgia Bore and Talawana Track to Newman. This is not the fastest route but is very scenic.

The quickest route is Gary Junction Road, Telfer Mine Road, Ripon Hills Road,Marble Bar, Nullagine, Newman. This route is also very scenic.

Other scenic routes include:

Carawine Gorge and Skull Springs Road to Nullagine.

Telfer Mine Road, Karlamilyi(Rudall River) National Park, Talawana Track, Newman.

I have done them all and they are all worth doing.

Plenty of fuel from communities along the Gary Junction Road. Kunnawarratji is the most popular and probably the most expensive.
HEMA is hard to beat.

I agree with Peter's comments.

My understanding is that fuel on the Gary Junction Road as far as Punmu is supplied from Alice Springs. Fuel costs reflect the distance transported. From memory, typical prices for diesel are:
Kintore $2.00
Kiwirrkurra $2.80
Kunawarritji $3.40
Punmu $3.20

Kunawarritji is always the most expensive. Partly because of distance but also because they have a captive population of travellers on the Canning who have few alternatives.

Kintore is a relative bargain.

Hema maps are accurate and include community phone numbers and store opening hours. They are adequate for Rudall River.

Thanks JC16. Interesting about fuel.Maybe times have changed.I worked at Balgo Hills and asked the tanker driver why fuel at Balgo was only 10cents dearer than Alice Springs. He told me there is no delivery charge.Rabbit Flat up the Tanami Track was charging 70cents more! Which he also supplied.

Very interesting comments about fuel. Last year diesel at Balgo was $2.08 and at nearby Billiluna $2.60. The manager at Billiluna told me the extra 52 cents was due to transport. Perhaps it is another Canning surcharge!

Your best bet is to fill up at Alice, then top up at Papunya, Kiwirrkurra and Kunnawarritji. or Punmu.
That'd help reduce the cost.
It's a good road through and not much traffic.

G'day LAZYLUX16,

we drove from Alice to 80 Mile Beach and that was about 1650 kms.
Through to Newman wouldn't be more than that.
