Michael, good try, but these riddles always have to do with a place we are going to or near.
The answer is "Old Galah" which is a property near Hay. The old homestead is "Old Galah" and is near the highway, the new homestead "Galah" is much further from the road.
I am told that a galah is a parrot not a cockatoo.
