Hi
Weather wise it most likely will be warm to hot.
the weather bureau records for Warburton last October have one day with a max below 30, one above 40 and the rest in the mid to high 30s.
Not the time of year I would choose to be out there but it is great country.
Cheers

Hi Martine

Obviously cooler at night. same records suggest temperatures in the high teens to low 20s. I doubt you would need a super sleeping bag wherever you sleep

Cheers

Martine - I've travelled along the GCR in late October. The temperature was regularly around 38 deg C.
Take plenty of water - 5L a day for each person.

Warakurna is a very good place to stay, Warburton is not so good, all the rest of the way there's only bare camping areas with no facilities.
Warakurna has a store with food and fuel, a motel, cheap "backpacker" accommodation, caravan sites, and campsites.

It also has a camp kitchen where you can cook your own food, and wash your utensils, and sit down in a fly-screened area to eat.

Warakurna Roadhouse

Tjukayirla has transportable unit type accomodation, back packer accommodation and caravan and campsites. It has a store with food and fuel.

A SUV with adequate ground clearance is O.K. (minimum 180mm ground clearance).
There are often deep ruts in the road, and these ruts often contain rocks, so a very heavily loaded vehicle or a low clearance vehicle, will incur damage to the underbody, fuel lines, brake lines, fuel tanks, etc.

The road surface is corrugated (washboard) along most of its length, so steady driving is advised, not full highway speed. It's not difficult to keep up a steady 85-90kmh. About 40km in the centre of the GCR is sealed road of highway standard.

The Great Central Road

Regards, Ron.

reading your answer i am wandering what do you mean camping "with no facilities"? does it mean with no inside place to sleep, just an area where
you can park your car and:or settle a tent?
also do you think it is possible to sleep inside the car by 38 degrees day:time
what is the difference with temperature night:time?

Correct - "no facilities", means exactly as you describe.
Cars get very hot inside, even with windows down. It would not be comfortable sleeping inside the car in 38 deg C heat.
Pesky, annoying flies are also a problem, particularly after recent rain.

Night time temperatures in October in that area are moderate - 14 deg C is about the lowest you can expect overnight - 25 deg C is about the highest, overnight.
Around 20-21 deg C is the average overnight.

Here are the weather observations for Giles Weather Station (at Warakurna) for October 2015. Maximum and minimum temperatures are on the left hand side.
