Permit for eastern end Garry Junction Rd ?

Just got a future plan for a couple of days, simple drive out there and back, no need for anything from the communities in the way of fuel or food etc.

Is a permit needed for eastern end Gary Junction Rd, out via Larapinta Dr up to join GJ Rd, and partially towards Mt Liebig town / community ?
It does go through / bypass Papunya, so thinking something might be needed.

Thanks Sig, probably the same process (and free) as per Madigan permits we just got for upcoming drive :)
I'll jump on the CLC site and have a look through.

Was looking at Glen Helen, Haast Bluff, Papunya, north then west to Newhaven a few weeks back but rain got in the way.

Rain.
Yeah this is a back up plan if Madigan is inaccessible in a couple of weeks.
Split, go up there solo, so some walking / peak bagging.
Mt Liebig, Giles, Sonder, maybe Razorback while there, time permitting . . . NT peaks 2, 3, 4
Already got #1 Zeil :)

We got ours for the Northern Territory side from CLC on line overnight. The Western Australian one was not instant and not so simple, but I understand it has been improved since our experience in 2009, after which I wrote to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.

Nav out that way can be a problem Les, with sign posts removed. Eg. there's nothing at the x roads Papunya/Yuendumu and Newhaven access.

Natmap topos are old. One tip from a local is to screen capture Google Earth images.

Good luck with shanks pony. There's some spectacular escarpments out there.

Cheers mate, the hema 250k or central Aust maps should be ok ?
Pretty sure I can wing it.

Looking wet up there !!
More rainfall just north of Finke, but still could be a problem getting in.
We won't know until we get there perhaps, though Bob Y is headed over from BV on an SA crossing right now, and then going up to do Madigan from west to east back to BV.
He is 6 days in front of us from Old Andado, but probably won't be able to get any updates from him, unless I call his sat phone :)

Yeah you should be able to figure it out with your bush walking nav experience. But the Hemas were poor out there. I had them, the old Natmaps as PDFs as well as Oztopo 6 for Garmin (2013 source data) and had a confidence level of about 6/10 in identifying alternative routes to the flooded one.

Could be interesting hey ?
I am really hoping Madigan access will be ok through the western parts, so in reality the West Macs alternative trip is probably less than 50/50.
Could be that there has been too much rain out through western part of west macs to access, might have to be happy with the main area out by Ormiston / Redbank.
Thanks again Sig, have info to get permit out of Alice if I do end up there, but here's hoping Madigan is a go.

Hiya mate, just back this arvo and plan B to centre wasn't needed, Madigan was all good for access, though BV TkLake Harry to Marree yesterday was really bad, as too our only exit via William Ck / Coober Pedy Rd, also yesterday late.
I did nearly 900km yesterday, and it wasn't fun believe me.
