QLD bitumen all the way last time I did it a couple of months back.

There is a bit of unseasonal rain about in north west and spreading south and east but not enough to close the roads (just the canning).

Thanks Sean - do you know if there is any difference timewise using this route and going via Winton?

They are both good roads. Depends where you are going. One comes out at Rocky and the other at Townsville. The Waltzing Matilda centre at Windon is worth a look if you to get a feel for the local history.

In 1960 my old man shook the windscreen out of his ford between cloncurry and julia creek and took all day to go 60 miles and that was with 5 kids on board. He only passed one car for the whole day. The road is a bit better these days.

Patrol,

Longreach to Hughenden is only bitumen part of way, Longreach to Muttaburra. Then its black soil most of the way into Hughenden. Most shires have done some repair work now, so it shouldn't be too bad. If you want to go to the 'Curry or the Isa, you are better sticking to bitumen, from Longreach.

Hooroo...

Can't remember most of it.

We did the trip from Muttaburra to Hughenden this time last year on the way to cape york and it was a steady run north from Muttaburra on a single lane, black soil track. Average speed is about 70 km (I'm fairly cautious) Took about 3 hours if i remember correctly.

Can't comment on the Longreach to Muttaburra section as we came from Barcaldine which was narrow tar all the way with lots of skippy's!!
