I'm in the
Sydney area and looking for someone who can repair an ABR Sinewinder Mk4 air compressor. I've had the thing for 3years , recently pumped up 4 tyres (245x75x16) from 20 psi to forty psi about 15 minutes runnimg time then started on the 5th but after 1 minute the compressor cut out. I figured it was the 'thermal cutout switch and so waited a couple of minutes, restarted it and it ran for only 2-3 seconds before shutting down. Have left it now for a week and on start up it runs slow for 2-3 seconds then stops. Hope it's not dead. Any suggestions on repairers???

Hi Trouper,
The symptoms suggest that it could be either the motor or maybe just the " Automatic Thermal Overload Protector". I would put my money on the latter.
These devices can be unreliable. Especially once operated they can develop poor contact conductivity and require replacement. If you can locate the device it can be 'bridged-out' and the compressor run to determine if the fault is the O/L protector or the motor. A good auto electrician could perhaps do this but at a compressor replacement cost of $220 his charge may not be reasonable.
Why not give Derek Bester of ABR Sidewinder a call on 07 3890 5899 and discuss it?

A couple of possibilities, best case scario is Brushes worn out. I don't thing it would have a brushless motor??? This is simple and relatively cheap to fix.
Worst case scenario, short circuit in motor windings, better off buying new one!

Bummer, I hope not to buy another. Don't use them all that often. I'm not blaming ABR Sidewinder, it's just one of those things that niggle at you.

It is most likely the thermal cut out, I had one fail on my dual ARB compressors. You can get new ones from Wagners for about $8 or on eBay for about $2.
If you need the part No let me know and I will see if I can find It.
Cheers
Peter.
