Good morning all. We're just back from a trip to SA and it had been some years since we had last been in
Hahndorf. I'm sure from our previous visits that there was a building with an old waterwheel operating on the outside of it? If so, it's no longer there, when did it go and why? Also I'm sure that the cuckoo clock
shop used to be quite large and on the low side of the street, this has now gone, but there is a cuckoo clock
shop still in the town.
Really enjoyed our overnight stay and would recommend a stay to anybody.
Hahdorf
Cheers

Hi Duncan,
Is still there at 98 Main Street, to my knowledge. (Left side of Main Street heading away from
Adelaide end).
Used to be a Restaurant but now a Hotel.

Hi Duncan
You might be thinking of the
Bridgewater Mill, not far from
Hahndorf.
cheers David

Hi David I don't think I've ever been to
Bridgewater let alone walked the streets. Thanks though.
Cheers

I assume the wheel was removed during the renovations to turn the business into the hotel.
If it wasn't
heritage listed the owners could do what they liked.

Hi Duncan,
There never was a water wheel at
Hahndorf.
There is one on an old flour mill at
Bridgewater nearby.
You may have driven through
Bridgewater village without realising its name.

Well I just pulled out the old photo album and you're all right regarding
Hahndorf and that there isn't and and there hasn't been a waterwheel there in the past 20 years. I obviously had my towns mixed up and I haven't been to
Bridgewater as far as we know, so we'll go on scratching our heads as to where it was.
I'm now thinking it may have been in one of the small towns in the hills above the
Gold Coast?
Thanks all.

Maleney in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, outside the clock
shop at the bottom of the
hill?

.
Montville, not Maleny. Yes, there is a clock
shop and a water wheel although it is purely decorative, not
heritage.

Bingo, that's the one. And Montville is another gem of a place, that we really enjoyed.
Thanks Allan & Milton.

hi
There was a small water wheel there . Thought it was on the lower side maybe next to a saddle maker. I might be wrong about the
shop but the wheel was there around 25yr ago

Thanks Swampy, in my mind's eye I can see the wheel as clear as day and I was sure it was
Hahndorf that I'd seen it but that was 20 years ago.
Cheers

I was sure that there was never a water wheel in
Hahndorf having lived near there and often frequented and photographed the village.
However, to be certain, and in case someone had put up a 'fake' wheel since I left the area, I have contacted a friend in the
Visitor Centre who confirmed that there is not, and never has been a wheel, historic or fake other than the genuine one at nearby
Bridgewater.
The
old mill in
Hahndorf, built in 1854, was a steam-powered flour mill. My Great Grandfather who farmed in the district no doubt took his wheat there at times.

Thanks Allan, like i said above in my minds eye I was sure it was
Hahndorf but obviously from what you're saying my mind's eye needs a new pair of specks.

As a Troopy owner you can be forgiven Dunc.
By the way, love that silhouette photo of the four kids. Classic!
