Hi Mants,
Don't know about the Station's however Dirk Hartog Island is definitely worth some time invested.
With only a week you may have to go by boat however you may fit within the barges time-frames for vehicular access.
Birds
Lighthouse and Quarters
Don't see this everyday off the Cape
I have been twice now and will go back again someday.
Cheers
Alan

This time of year, I would be going to
Alexander Bay. Could be nice and cool.

Dirk Hartog, BUT you need more than 1 week. We went in Sep/Oct this year and round trip from
Perth was 11 days and it was too rushed. Next time we will allow 2 weeks on the island but we like to take time to explore and chill.
Once you get to the end of the gravel at Useless Loop it is pretty slow going out to Steep Pt, and slower on DHI.
With only 1 week I would say
Tamala, or Carrarang with a day trip out to Steep &
False Entrance, or try and get a
camp spot in the National Park.

Yeah 1 week is all ive got so just got to go with it.
Ill be going solo so dont have to wait around on people or anything.
Ive done useless loop out to
steep point before so dont need to do that apart from to get to the barge collection point.

If going solo you can get 5 days on DHI which is ok. Talk to the DHI guys and make sure you get an early barge collection from
Shelter Bay on day2, after camping overnight on the beach day1. West and Northern end of the island are stunning, but a long way up there so do some fuel calculations.
DHI crew are very helpful, but unless you are staying/camping at the
homestead you are not really their customer as all the other
camp areas are 100% DPaW.

I would choose Carrarang, this time of the year it will be windy but there will be a spot there a bit protected from the wind. (I worked/lived up the road at Useless Loop for 15 years until last April)
Cheers, Sparra

Not a bad spot that Carrarang Station. Had some great Mash potatoes there once. Great fishing. Must get back there again one day.
Cheers, Boof.

Carnarvon seems to have the best temperatures of anywhere. All year round.
