Has anyone tried to follow the Ghan from
Darwin to Alice?

If you are talking about driving parallel to the railway line it is not possible. It is also illegal to use the access/maintenance tracks to the line. The right of way is owned by the company and access is mostly on private property.

If you are looking to get off sealed roads you might like to consider the Binns Track as an alternative. Westprint Maps have a good map and video on this trip. Cheers

I surveyed most of it back in the 80s before it was built.
