Hi Mary-Anne!

You should be OK at this time.
The annual bike ride from Broome to Kununurra (21st-25th) will be over by then, so you should be able to get into any of the campsites along the way.

We are coming the other way, a bit earlier, about 12th May and ending in Kununurra around 21st May, subject to the GRR being open after the wet.

Good luck on your trip, it's a beautiful part of our Country!

Bill

My apologies folks,

The Gibb River Challenge this year starts from Derby and finishes at El Questro, but on the same dates I mentioned.

It is appropriate to know though as overnight accommodation along the route may be difficult with the multitude of rivers and support staff.

We were traveling the Gibb three years ago during the bike ride, but in the opposite direction. We passed the bulk of the riders between Drysdale River turnoff and Windjana Gorge and apart from the courteous slowing down as we passed the groups we had no problem with overnight camping. The riders appreciate you slowing for them and will acknowledge your thoughtfulness with a finger salute as you are creating quite a dust cloud on the unsealed surface
However, this year we will be traveling in the same direction and choose to be ahead of the Ride to avoid and sort of problems such as delays in passing.

The Gibb Challenge 2017

Thanks Bill !
I've been caught up with them in the past...as much as they are champions, doing what they do, would rather avoid them. !

Hi Mary Anne. Just seeking more info. I am arriving in Broome late March and will be up there for a while. I am interested in doing the GRR with a small group as its my first time up there. How long are you intending for the trip. Let me know more details if possible and I will see how it works out.

Cheers

Hi Tony !
I'm lucky enough not to be time constrained...so it will depend on the group and if I do the Munja track. Approx 3 weeks at this stage.
cheers Mary Anne

Hi Mary-Anne, you may like to check further as the Munja Track is often not open until July. It's also advisable to travel it in a group in case you're thinking of travelling solo.

Thanks Mary-Anne. Sounds terrific. I will keep a watch on this and let you know as things move forward. Hope you can get it all together and have a ball. Right now just organising us to get from Hobart to Broome by mid March.
