Has anybody travelled on the tracks which go north from Silverton (near Broken Hill), basically following the NSW/South Australia border and ending up at Cameron Corner? I would like to know if they are suitable for a Mazda BT50 towing a 13' off-road caravan. Max W2

Max,
A great run we did it with 2 caravans.
Silverton, Eldee,Willangee, Kantappa, west to Mulga Valley, Avenel, Pine View, Border Downs, Moorabie, Smithville Outpost, (start of dog fence).
North along the dog fence to Hawker Gatehouse. You must turn off the dog fence here to Winathee, Hewart Downs, Waka, Fort Grey and Cameron Corner.
You will be on PAR's leave gates as found, I called in to some places to inform we were passing through. Take a very good GPS. We met some great locals on the way. I checked it out on Google Earth before we left. We also had (and needed) dune flags and HF radio.

Cheers,

Hi B1B2,
Thanks for your quick reply. What size caravans were you towing?
The roads must have been OK when you went through, how long ago did you do the trip?

Max,
16'6" offroad van and a16' Avan. It was a sandy track, a bit tight in places, but we had no trouble. The navigating was tricky, especially around Mulga Valley We did it in May 2009. The house and sheds at Mulga valley had been flattened by a Tornado. We met the owner on the track checking her dams, and she told us what happened to them.

Cheers,

No, there are minor tracks very close to the border. We have driven up the "main" road and it is a good gravel road.

Hi Max, We did some of these tracks back in 2015, although we weren't towing, the tracks were in pretty good condition, and I don't think you would have any trouble towing a full off road caravan. We travelled from Camerons Corner to Tibooburra, then down Silver City Highway turn off to Yandama, Winnathee, Hawker Gatehouse, at the dog fence. Backtrack a little, then down to Smithville Outpost, Border Downs, Pine View, Teilta, Mount Wooloolahra, Kantappa, Eldee, Silverton, Broken Hill.

I am sure you could easily do the reverse, bypassing Tibooburra and heading to Camerons Corner. If you have a Hema Road & 4WD Atlas, it is on map 60.
