NSW Budget - Reduced rego costs for caravans and camper trailers

In today's Sydney Morning Herald there was a one-liner saying that in the up-coming State budget there would be a 40% reduction in rego costs for caravans. In NSW, rego consists of a small rego fee and a large weight tax.

Curious as to whether the reduction applied to the small rego fee or the large tax, or both, I contacted my local MP and was sent the Minister's press release (below). Without going into detail, I thought it was ambiguous and not very clear, so I made further enquiries.

The 40% reduction is to the tax and is available to all owners of light (ie up to 4.5 tonne) towed caravans and purpose-built camper trailers registered for private use.

If you're an eligible pensioner you will continue to get one free registration, say for your motor vehicle, PLUS, if you have a van or CT, you will get the 40% reduction in tax on the van or CT.
