Hi. Travelling
Plenty Highway, East to West, towing a capable Off Road 20' caravan. Am finding road conditions for either the Harts Range Track, or
Gemfields Rd and their suitability for traversing with a caravan difficult to find. We want to end up at Claraville, then Trephina,
Ross River etc, then exit via the
Ross Highway. Any relevant experiences appreciated. Cheers.

It has been quite a while now, but the road heading south from Gem Tree should give no problems.
As far as I know, that is the only road heading south from the Plenty. The only other one was Cattle Water Pass which would have been pretty tough for a 20ft van, but it is permanently closed now anyhow.
Cheers,
Peter

Thanks Peter. My Hema maps showed a 4wd track by the Hart Range...but that was all I could find out.

We went up from Old Ambalindum to GemTree towing camper trailers last year and had no problems. You should be alright with a capable short off road van.

Hi Gerard,
When are you planning this trip? I'm looking at doing the Plenty around mid October. I've been eyeing off that track, but like you could not find too much info. I would be interested in getting a update on the road and track status
I've got a reasonable 18' offroader. But would be concerned about big departure angles.
Thanks
Darren

Darren. I'll let you know how we get on. We should be on it sometime around the last few days of July. Our Lotus isnt brilliant on departure angles....so I bought the wife a shovel for her birthday. Cheers Gerard.
