Afternoon all,

I am attending the Gathering at Kilcowera in a week or so. I, along with other attendees, want to raise as much money for drought assistance as possible during the Gathering so there will be raffles every day (correct me if I’m wrong Sir Kev) and other events to entertain us. One of these events is playing the noble game of horseshoes.

I started off at a National Gathering at Innamincka 10 years ago. I took my horseshoes along and we played in the sand and dirt on the banks of Cooper Creek. I am bringing the horseshoes to Kilcowera so bring your gold coins and small notes and lets raise dust and $.

To “encourage” players to greater efforts to get the elusive “Ringer”, I need the services of a “Heckler”. Someone who can tell a player “ Did you get that one caught in ya skirt ya big girl” or similar and not be concerned for his/her safety at a later time. No references are required - a helmet might be LOL.

Looking forward to meeting old friends and making new friends at Kilcowera.

Cheers

There will also be a daily Sheriff, it issue fines for misdemeanors as well, so attendees had better bring lots of gold coins ??

I heard a sad tale yesterday regarding the hay transported to alleviate the food shortage in drought areas.

All the hay has to be collected from the farmers and dumped.

Yeah, apparently someone found a needle in a haystack.

Banjo

If you saw first hand just how serious it is in drought stricken Queensland and New South Wales and in the pastoral districts of South Australia you would not make a joke of it.

I personally know a couple of Station people that have been feeding stock with hay ....by the road train costing thousands of dollars for over 12 months and it is no laughing matter.

They have had to destock their stations and when the drought breaks, it is going to cost millions of dollars for all pastoralist to restock, and the way things are at the moment, many will not be able to afford it.

The trouble with city people, they have no idea of country life. Cost of good lambs have reached $300 and cattle $1000 per head.......so just think could you afford to buy 10,000 sheep or 1000 head at cattle at these prices......

I was recently at Kilcowera station and heard another camper say to Greg that he would love to see the property after a couple of months of rain. Greg simply said " so would I" with a laugh.

Yes the drought is devastating but it is amazing how some of the owners still haven't lost their sense of humour.

Cheers John. yes, we are both good.

I pop in here occasionally, and other places. I'm a bit "forumed out" these days and mainly read what's happening and try to minimise my comments.
