Hi, Its been a while since anyone's updated the availability of LPG autogas for interstate travellers.
Has anyone made a recent trip across Australia from
Perth to the Eastern States or vice versa in a dedicated gas vehicle? Did you have any issues e.g. service stations on the Nullabor that are supposed to sell gas, not having it available etc. Thanks

Try Petrol Spy. Type in
Eucla and make the fuel LPG. It's $1.35 which compares to 79.9 in SW
Sydney. Then do the rest of the Nullarbor from
Ceduna $1.06.9 to
Norseman $1.38.5...........W

I also use petrol spy and find it quite good.
For LPG in remote areas I found it conservative on where to find LPG - by that, I mean I found that more stations had LPG than are listed but I guess that is simply a result of users not updating information to the site when they came across LPG.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds possible. We have never been out of WA, let alone crossed the Nullabor in a dedicated gas vehicle, so we wanted to ask advice from people who've done the trip before making the decision. Cheers

If you're dual fuel, you'll probably find it almost as economical to run on petrol out there. I did when I used to run it. The price of lpg climbs higher in proportion to the price of petrol. Having said that, it's been nearly 20 years since I had an lpg car so I could be wrong.

HI, Thanks for your reply. Our vehicle is dedicated gas. It has a range of about 650kms per tank. I was mostly interested in the availability of LPG in remote areas - how far stations that sell Autogas are apart. Cheers

Sorry mate, missed that. The servos are around 200kms apart between
Norseman and
Ceduna. I'd be filling at all of them as suggested elsewhere in case some had run out.

I suggest that you contact the individual servos and ask them yourself rather than rely on reports by others. Not saying that the other's reports are wrong, but you will have greater peace of mind about where/if you can get LPG. Hopefully when you arrive at the given servo they haven't run out. Obviously, you should not go past a servo with LPG, hoping that the next one which is nominally within your range will still have some.
From memory,
Nundroo servo closed a long time ago. the other main servos seem to have LPG and 650 km should get you across OK. You just have to see the bank manager first though...

Your memory is bad.
Nundroo is still functioning, we got fuel there a couple of months ago. Petrol Spy lists LPG at $1.20.

Yep
Yalata is the closed one. When we passed it a couple of months ago the servo building was gone.

Another possibility is that the pump is out of action. But if your range is 650 km this should not be a problem. We did the trip in 1991 in a gas only car with 4 kids and a van. Headwinds caused higher than expected fuel consumption near
Mildura and we had a nervous half hour with the fuel light on red until a servo was reached LOL.....W

I would be contacting the servos as you travel as I have seen a lot of out of order LPG pumps in our travels.
No doubt its a takes a long time to get a serviceman in to fix them in the more isolated spots

Bit off topic but in 2001 purchased two dedicated falcons a Ute and a
sedan. The Ute got 700km range, the
sedan 900-950kms. The only difference was wheel size and the utes tailgate had airflow resistance.
The Ute completed 495,000 kms before we sold it.
Much $$ savings

Port Augusta has recently had three service stations remove their LPG installations, thereby limiting supply. Interestingly the newest built service station, OTR on the east side, never put LPG in.

There is a phone App you can try -
Auto LPG Station Locator - Australia - I have not looked at it myself as I don't have a smart phone.
