In a word: corrugated!
Travelling from west to east, it begins as a
well-graded road. Then gradually deteriorates as you go along. Emu through
Mabel Creek station, the corrugations are brutal.
You'll also encounter some sand.
At least this is what I found in September 2019.
I trust you are aware this is by no means a "highway", and of the many considerations involved in planning a trip on it.

It is no more than a goats track in many
places.
Very corrugated as mentioned before.
But it is worth doing as long as you drive to the conditions and lower tyre pressure.
