Hello,
I have been seeking a form that can be given to a
ranger or police when they request you move on when resting on the side of the road. I have seen one many years ago. The form from the motorhome association or other body, that state that you are tired or have been drinking alcohol and that it is unsafe for you to drive. You normally ask the official to complete their details and
sign.
I have not been able to find this form so if someone has a copy or knows where to find it could you please help.
Regards Michael

As one of the 4 chief rangers in
Kakadu, my
ranger card that allows me to enforce the EPBC Act and it's Regs will trump your so called form.
Having said that. If you were parked on the side of the road having a cuppa and
scone just taking a break, probably wouldn't even stop. However, if you were setting up
camp between the hours of 6am and 6 pm on the side of the road, I would be moving you on to a propper
camp ground, if you were intoxicated, I would be notifing the police.
Have a great trip and do the right thing.
Regards

Most of the people that this would effect are parked up safe and sound between 6am and 6pm, therefore if you are setting up at 4pm on the side of the road and say you are tired wont cut it. In
Kakadu, I can't think of a
camp ground that is further that 50kms from the next one. So if you can't drive 50kms to the next
camp ground then you probably shouldn't be driving in the first place. And yes, there are plenty of people that try and
free camp.
My original point was, that form wouldn't be worth the paper it's writen on.
Another answer to your question, between 6pm and 6am, Im at
home having a life.

If you are sleeping in your vehicle because you are pissed, the coppers can knock you off for being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. In the old days if you had too much at the pub you would sleep it off in your vehicle in the pub
parking area, but first throw the keys away, because you couldn't be legally charged with being in charge of the vehicle if you weren't in possession of the keys. I wouldn't want to
test that loophole today. Also don't forget while 'on the side of the road' or on the verge, insofar as the law is concerned you are still legally 'on the road'.
