That channel country is riddled with tracks (plus the occasional cranky grazier!), may of which change according to the way the seasonal channels open and close due to flood flows.
Some years ago we mined opal on Mayneside, there is a track we sometimes used runs directly west from above
Longreach and through Vergemont.
I think there may be a track follows Vergemont creek from Lochern NP to Vergemont which would then go on to Maynesyde/
Opalton, but it may be also unpassable.
Along with Cuppa's observations, another word of advise regarding any tracks with a sign saying "keep out". Best heed the advise, will more than likely lead to an opal
miners camp who does not appreciate visitors.
A very useful map book is the Atlas of Qld. and NT Pastoral Stations by Terrence and Rosemary Alick. Great country out there, you will enjoy it all
