Hi guys
A recent motorhome insurance quote asked for 3 conditions one being installation of GPS Tracking.
Google says there are some with yearly fees and others are pay once.
Anyone had experience with this? Any recommendations appreciated.

Look for another Insurance Company.
Never heard of that requirement to insure a motor vehicle before.

I think they are all into their little tricks to up the premium without any thought. My NRMA policy cost was increased because I don't have a wheel lock and it's not under cover, despite these originally being stated when I took out the policy and two prior renewals. Who'd want to steal a 13 yo camper trailer? I'd be ok with a wheel lock in the driveway, but don't want the bother of having to carry one on the road as storage space is at a premium. The under cover came after a claim for hail damage which has an excess double that for other damage. They did replace the rear fibreglass
shell after a large stress crack formed, I thought it would be classified as maintenance/wear and tear so can't complain there. The policy cost~$400 with the ability to suspend cover when not travelling so I have stuck with them.

You can buy gps trackers on ebay for about $100 that uses a simcard to send position when interrogated - costs about $30 for 6months on the simcard - that is the total costs. The online software is free - eg Miitown.

Note that the vast majority of trackers require SIM cards to work, meaning they can only track when in range of a mobile tower.
Not a lot of use if you are travelling.

The Tracker is for if it is stolen - if that happens it will soon be in mobile range once the van goes to somewhere to be sold or dismantled.
