Planning ahead to give us something to look forward too.

Can anyone advise on the route from Broken Hill, Silverton and north into SA and around to Milparinka.
We are seasoned remote travellers (too seasoned unfortunately) and have a fully tricked 4WD with a Rooftop Tent.
Guessing it's like most out there, Dry weather only and Rarely see's a Grader and plenty of camps off the track?

Anyone been through that can offer info or tips ?

Cheers

We went from Milparinka to Cameron Corner via the Hawker Gate and Waka roads then down to Lyndhurst yesterday 22/11. The roads were good except when we hit the Fort Grey road which was pretty corrugated.

Thanks mate,

Its not until winter 2021 and a lot can happen to roads during that time, however I guess I was trying to get a general feel for the place. I just love the outback. Plenty of camps out that way?
Drove for miles looking at barbwire fences in similar country :(

I'm not sure how you're going north from Silverton into SA? You aren't really allowed to hog the dog fence in most parts and in NSW at least it's all sheep/cattle stations with fences and no camping signs on a lot of them. I've never been through any of the gates except the Cameron Corner gate.

Michael,
You can legally travel from Silverton on PAR's, Eldee, Kantappa, Mulga Valley, Avenel, Pine View, Border Downs, Moorabie, Smithville House to Hawker gate where you must leave the fence. There is a big sign.
Go east to Winathee, Hewart Downs or Theldarpa. It' a good run, and at the gates they ask you to call in to let them know, which I did.
You will need a good gps. We (x2) were towing caravans and used a dune flag as there were some good crests.

Cheers,

Thank you B1B2,
That's the stuff that will be real handy. A particularly interesting tip was the Dune Flag. I've down two Simpson Desert Trips but I didn't think I'd need a Flag for this one - however safety is everything so it's in with the gear. Calling in on stations makes sense as well. We carry a Sat phone on all trips.

I tracked the trip prior your info on google maps (at best a guide) and it had me going into SA. I will track your route on my hard copy maps of the area to check.
Like you we have 2 GPS.

Hopefully, we will have a vaccine by then but regardless trips like this are sound "Self Isolation"
We are both active 73yo's

Cheers and thanks again

Thank you so much to all.

I have been in and out of the forum for years and always found good people who share their experiences.
After this outstanding degree of help I cannot in good conscience not join the band.

Michael,
Welcome to Exoz.
A couple of things to add, we met some really nice people on the track. One caretaker gave us a huge bucket of Yabbies from his dam and pointed out a few old steam traction engines.
Another lady we met was a station owner checking her dams, and we had a great chat, she heard us on the uhf, listened and thought we were lost, then thought we were ok, then we caught up with her and she said to say G'day to her cousin Fred at The Trading Post Innamincka, which we did and SHE was most surprised.
Also she told us they used to live at Mulga Valley with her kids and thought it was a fabulous place. When we passed through it, had obviously been hit by a tornado and was severely flattened.
As we were towing full height caravans I got to southern point - S31 16.469 E141 04.458 and wasn't sure we could get through, but you can drive from there to S31 13.371 E141 05.140. So it is a straight drive North.
Stay off the bitumen and stay safe

None of that seems to be in South Australia? I knew you could go up on the NSW side.

Hi H9,

As I mentioned earlier, the SA thing showed up in google maps details mentioning SA.
When looking at Oztopo you can follow the fence, cross into SA and then return further up.

I've decided to do the Corner Country and return via Pine View etc. Looking good.

Cheers

Hi Michael,
I was just looking through Places and came across this Blog from one of our long-term very well travelled Members which documents the route very nicely - tons of photos and good description to help you know what to expect. Take a look here - Link to Rob & Chicka's Blog
