Savannah Way

This transcontinental road trip, stretches from the historic pearling town of Broome on the northwest coast of WA; travelling past Katherine in the heart of the NT,

Wondering if anyone knows what the road is like at the moment, or would it be a better option to go from Barkly Homestead north. We are towing a tinny which we have done before and don't mind rough roads. Just want the quickest option this time.
We are currently in the Noosa region.

If you don't need to go to Burketown then it would probably be quicker on the blacktop all the way from Noosa.

I would go to Barkly then head north, it has been a wet wet, the tinny might start floating while still on the trailer on some of the water crossings via Hells Gate

Was thinking that.
Don't need to go to Burketown so will leave the dirt for another day.
Actually once when crossing the Archer river I looked in the mirror and the boat and trailer was doing exactly that.

Yes it's bitumen. Narrow and very wavy with high shoulders.

I thought it was typical stuff, just get one wheel off the tar well before needing to, pick your spot to get on the shoulder, pick your spot to get off it.

That is unless you see a road train, then you pick your spot and head for the hills lol

Struck a bit of that...narrow wavy bitumen the other day going from Nyngan to Walgett. Not as bad as Menindee to Wilcannia though.
Lost the spare wheel bracket off the trailer.

The problem is people put one wheel off the tar and don’t slow down showering stones in every direction.
A good road to pick up a stone dent or broken windscreen.

Made it to Booroloola with out any dramas, the road was actually better than I remember.
Any vehicles coming toward me, I pull off the bitumen and almost stop leaving the road to them.....no busted windscreens.
Now to hopefully catch a few fish.
Have found the traveller app and offline maps excellent.
A bit slow on the old 8 inch Samsung, but apparently a new one, Tab A7 lite, will be out in June.
