The Madigan Line

Has anyone recently travelled the Madigan Line? It doesn’t appear anywhere on the Explore Oz site or as a trek in maps. I notice Hema has it.

I’ve been along Madigan a couple of times, Kevin, as well as one trip solo, where I only did Camps 1A-5 &Camp 16 to Annandale. It’s a good journey, except where folk chew up the western approaches to sandhills through a lack of commonsense & low tyre pressures.

There are 2 Treks that cover this area:

Simpson Desert via Geosurveys Hill and Hay River.

We had these published years before the use of the term "Madigan Line" become in vogue.
We just haven't got around to combining a new Trek of that name but guess we really should. Will add it to the list.

Obviously the tracks do appear on the EOTopo map.

Hey Pete, I'm part of a group planning to do the Madigan in a few weeks. Do you have any fuel usage figures for the vehicles in your group? Thanks.

Thanks Pete. It's the 797kms from Mt Dare to Birdsville that I'd love to have fuel figures for. If any come to hand, please let me know. Cheers.

Hi Kevin

Trevor David has a bit on the Madigan on this site. If you search Track Logs and enter Madigan Line a list will come up and Trevor David's is called " Warrnambool to Warrnambool ................" and takes in The Madigan Line route.
His post is " Madigan Line July18. Warrnambool to Warrnambool - NT"

He has some fuel figures .....

"Madigan Line MT Dare to Birdsville. Two Vehicles. 79 Series Cruiser six cylinder Diesel-1HD FTE used 120L approx. Hilux 2.7 Petrol 150 L approx. Track that time of the year was well defined. The approaches to the dunes badly chopped up with the sand being mostly firm, so basically low range up & over."

Not much other info, except for his trek map.

Cheers

the 79 series v8 was the most economical of all the vehicles an it had a tailgate camper on its back
it was within a lt of the hiluxes every fuel stop
that amazed the rest of us ,it beat the LC200 s by 20lts every time
cheers
