Any ideas of a place to go during the September school holidays that will be quiet ish preferably 4wding nearby by or access only. Will probably be towing a 4WD trailer as well. Anywhere within say 600km of brisbane or so. No where is really out of the picture. Will consider all options.
Please describe the place and what there is to see there as well.

Thankyou all in advance

Richard

Why not try Cararvon Gorge area. There is a great camping spot in there. The main area gets a bit full sometime but I did see a show about the back camping ground which is away from the crowds and has some good 4x4 areas in it. Ron Moon did the story. sorry cant remember much about it. to keep away from the crowds we use the caravan park at Injune and travelled to the gorge.

The area you may be thinking of is Mt. Moffat National Park. It's an old cattle station reclaimed and has 4 or 5 camp-sites and heaps of old farm tracks. Plenty of rock formations (arches, pillars, etc) some aboriginal artwork, bush walks and some stunning views. And best of all no crowds, we stayed 4 or 5 days during April a couple of years ago and we only saw 3 other vehicles after we visited every campground.
Getting there, go to Injune and turn north-west several hundred metres north of the township and follow that road for 2.5-3 hours (majority unsealed). Its a long drive ( 10-11 hours from Brisbane) but its worth it for the solitude.
There was a ranger in residence but no facilities except for pit toilets and creek water, so go self-sufficient. Hope this helps.

There is plenty of info on Canarvan on the net. Complete with maps and descriptions of the camping areas

Cheers

schoolhoilday, SE QLD, quite? That's seems like an oxymoron. However, Carnarvon Gorge was a good suggestion.

There's great exploring and desert type country out around Hungerford on the Qld NSW border. It's home to the Bilbe rehabilation centre, there's a great lake & tons of wildlife plus one of the best little bush pubs in Oz (see Sheree & Moc - great characters and hosts at the pub) & tell them Cocka sent you.
If you stay in town at the camp ground you might be the only ones there - it works on an honesty system and has good facilities other wise camp out near the lakes. Good luck.
