I was there a couple of weeks ago and it was closed. I had the impression it had been closed for some time. I assume we're talking about the one near the pub. There is still signage visible from the highway that indicates camping, but if you drive to the site, the sign says closed.

There are campsites in Parachilna Gorge that are open, and Wikicamps shows a free camp behind some ruins a few km to the north.

Yep the same one. They had about 15 vans and tents set up next to the pub. I stayed at several of the camps in the gorge . They had a couple of young people working at the pub and maybe they didn't understand you
Where did you get the information that it was closed

I was there on Sat 4 June. I got the information from the sign out the front of the camping area that said it was closed. The area I'm referring to is the old school yard just to the north of the Prarie Hotel, which is where ExploreOz Traveller has it marked. I confess I didn't bother to ask at the hotel as there didn't seem to be any doubt about the issue. It's been removed from Wikicamps, which is a clear sign, and recent discussion on the Wikicamps FB group has said that it was closed. If you saw people there then that may have been an exception for a group that was made by arrangement. I did see vans parked directly across the road from the hotel, but I didn't get they sense that they were camping there, I think just stopped for a look or a drink. There's no mention of camping on the PH website.

I was there evening of 30 Jun 22. I noted that it didn't show on Wikicamps but was listed on Explore Oz. I enquired in the hotel and the young woman on bar was pretty definite that the campsite was closed since 2019 and she reported no plan to reopen. She confidently redirected me to the Parachilna gorge sites but I was heading north and went elsewhere. I mentioned the signage on the highway to which she replied that they 'weren't responsible for government signs'. The hotel bar is only open to the public 11-4 four days a week, otherwise only open to resident guests in the evening. If there were tents and vans there a few weeks ago I'm guessing that was a booked group.

The talk on FB is that extreme staff shortages are causing them to limit service to residents, and the restrictions can vary with the state of their staffing.

People heading north should consider Beltana as an alternative - an excellent campsite.

The old Beltana Roadhouse is closed and there is no campsite listed there in WikiCamps. The campsite looks to be as far from the main road as the ones in Parachilna George.

Beltana campground is in Wikicamps. Booking via Hipcamp, which is a pain, although they have been know to accept walk-ins. The road in from the highway has been recently sealed, so it's a pretty easy and short 10km drive.

This is what I said "The old Beltana Roadhouse is closed and there is no campsite listed there in WikiCamps." I did not say there was no campsite in the old Beltana township.
