Hi everyone - Here's a great Northern Territory location on the Nathan River Road (Savannah Way ). The Lomareium Lagoon features the most magnificent expanse of water lilies you will see anywhere in Australia. A great stopover point and photographic opportunity along the Nathan River Road. This epic journey begins at Mataranka and finishes at Cape Crawford (445 km in distance) part of the famous Savannah Way.
The tracks are rough and you will need to be self sufficient .Supplies and fuel at Roper Bar Store, Cape Crawford (or Borroloola). Swimming can only be safely done at Butterfly Falls.

Cheers Mike and Kendra

It is indeed a lovely spot. I wish we could have camped there instead of just stopping for a lunch break. I think we stayed at Towns River that night though, & that was pretty special too. At Butterfly falls we had far less water than you. Would be great to be there when the falls were flowing & to see what the name derives from.

The name of Butterfly Springs/Falls derives from the large number of butterflies that live on the rocky cliffs nearby. As you walk from the campground to the waterhole look for a less used track that branches off to the right and leads to the cliffs. Hundreds of butterflies can be present.

Cheers, John

Yes, so we understood John, but none there at all during our visit. (late August 2019) Water was close to drying up completely. I believe the butterflies are most abundant when the falls are flowing?

Thanks for the video. Certainly is a nice spot, one of the last places I ever went with my Dad. March flies can be a bugger though.
Did you go for a dip.......:-)

Found a dead snake under the water at the bottom of Butterfly falls years ago. I wasn't game to pick it up initially, just in case it wasn't dead! Must have died up top and washed over the falls. Flies were bad the last time I was at that campground.

Not sure why you don't have more subscribers with the great videos you produce.
Keep up the good work.

Regards

Lyndon

The waterfall wasn’t flowing but there was plenty of water to swim in . We had a torrential downpour for about 10 minutes and then it was all sunshine again. The camping area was sodden ! All part of the fun . There were plenty of butterflies around the shady areas.

Nah, not a file snake. I think you mainly get then in lagoons. This guy had come down from the Plateau I think. Have a photo of it somewhere

On one of our visits to Butterfly Falls there was a large yellow python having a stroll on the far side rocks.
