Hey everyone, Looking to get some work done of my HJ. Things like power steering, fairey overdrive or 5 sp gear box,
suspension & more. Wondering if any one knows a good mechanic in
Sydney for such works. maybe that specialises in older land cruisers.

Consider shipping it up to Paul Read at Mr Landcruiser in Caboolture. No better person in Australia to do the work.
But.. the Fairey overdrives were junk and both 5 speed and power steering are totally overrated upgrades.

I've never driven a 40ser with narrow tyres they might be ok but I had a shorty with M/T's and ute with A/T's both 31" x 10.5 and power steering would have been a great upgrade can't possibly see how it's overrated. I was going to get it for the ute but ended up selling it about 18 months ago.

It causes additional engine bay clutter, the radiator outlet has to be modified, the steering components get changed and it costs money that is often better spent elsewhere. My unmodified 47 gets from one side of Australia to the other 1-2 times every year on 33 MTs. I dont struggle but appreciate that others may not have the mobility or strength to do the same.

Nothing to do with not having the strength to turn the wheel I spent a lot of time off road driving one and power steering would make it a lot nicer to drive for anyone. Still won't be as cluttered as a modern vehicle and all mods cost money just depends on how much.

A 5 speed box would be a great addition so the motors revving lower quieter in the cab and should save a bit on fuel.

Had one over 20years
Brake booster and master needs a upgrade if you want decent brakes
Even critical if you carry weight and tow.
Best mod I ever did
The idler arms are a pain
Replacing them easily 5times or more over the years
Brake light switches
Buy genuine
Aftermarket stuff is rubbish.
Got sick of using auto Lecky so I went genuine and put it in myself
