Hi everyone,

Heading off on Saturday for a two week trip from central Vic to Coober Pedy, Alice Springs, Palm Valley, Kings Canyon, Uluru etc. Mostly sticking to the better roads. Its our first time up that way , just wanting to have a general look around. Towing our off road camper trailer and mostly staying at Caravan parks (soft I know, but its hard to beat a good shower and feed). Will use the parks as a base and do a few day trips in the Prado.

Got all the usual camping/travelling gizmos plus laptop, gps, Ozi, digi camera etc.

Anyone got any last minute tips in case I've forgoten something?

Thanks

Steve.

Hi Steve, I will be that way myself over the next two weeks or so, and visiting most of the places you are seeing. I will be in my trusty blue Nissan Skyline (with Exploroz sticker on the rear window!) If you see me, toot yell or wave! I may be listening to UHF channel 40 and 18 as well.
Cheers

Our rough iteinerary is Sat 17th Ballarat - Port wakefield Sun 18th Port Wakefield - Coober Pedy Mon 19th Coober Pedy - Alice Springs Tue 20th Alice Springs - Palm Valley return Wed 21st Alice Springs - Yulara Thu 22nd Yulara - Kings Canyon Fri 23rd Kings Canyon - Coober Pedy Sat 24th Coober Pedy - Port Wakefield, then a couple of days along the Murray on the way home. Not a lot of time for a good look around I know, but we've left a few days spare incase we want to stay longer in a couple of spots. Will be driving a new silver Prado with ARB colour coded bar, winch, tint, BFG's etc towing a green camper trailer with explore oz sticker ( or two cos I'm lucky!) UHF CH. 40.

Look forward to meeting any other forumites who will be in those areas at around that time

Steve.

Hi Steve,

I'll be in Coober Pedy on Monday 19th (on the Coober Pedy mail run), and intend to be at Yulara from Tuesday 20th through to Friday 23rd and probably drive to Kings Canyon on Friday 23rd as well. Perhaps I'll see you at Yulara or Kings Canyon. I'll keep a look out for your nice new Prado!
Cheers

Hi Steve. have just returned from almost exactly the same trip. 3 things i reckon worth adding to your itinerary are:
- the "Boggy Hole" track from Hermansburg to Ernest Giles Rd. It was officially closed and the Boggy Hole crossing was just over waist high, but you don't have to drive thru boggy hole .. we just we around it over the rough (dry) track. we were towing an offroad camper & it was no problems. Very pretty (& easy) drive just following the finke sth
- after Uluru we headed east over to Finke & then over to Dalhouse Springs
- then south to Oodnadatta track (excellent condition) & on to camp on the shores of Lake Eyre

Thanks Drew,

Boggy Hole was included in our original plan, but we heard and read so many conflicting reports, from "impasable, extremely rough, definetly no trailers" etc, to "must see and no problems with access", so we decided to leave it out for simplicity. May have to re-think.

Steve.
