All travellers to W.A. from the East, be aware that a heavy, consistent and relatively stationary rain band, has brought major flooding in Eastern W.A. through to the W.A. border.

There are many major road closures in the region - the Leonora-Laverton road is closed due to severe flooding, the Trans-Line has been cut by flooding and will be closed for days, and the Eyre Hwy between Norseman and Eucla is closed due to flooding.

Many of the remote Aboriginal Communities and many Outback tracks are flooded. Some areas have received over 200mm of rain over the last few days, and this comes on top of heavy rains in the area at the end of January 2024.

Please check with local road authorities before moving through this region in the next week to perhaps 10 days.

I see on the Main Roads WA site that the "Eyre Hwy between Norseman and Eucla - Flooding
Road re-opened with extreme caution. Due to heavy rain on Eyre Hwy, no parking on road shoulders. Water remains over the road."

I wonder if this means that Lake Boonderoo will get any water or fill up. It last filled from Cyclone Bobby last centaury.

I bet it does, have a friend at Rawlinna Station and as of 2 days ago had over 30 cm of water throughout the homestead and all the outbuildings and it is a sea of water.

Still raining out there with another 20 mm yesterday and nearly 150 mm for the week not including all the other rain.

I would imagine Lake Boonderoo would get some water in it, but I'd have say it's unlikely to fill right up.

Most of the stations within about 150kms East of Kalgoorlie have had around 80-120mm of rain in the last week to 10 days - but the major rain band was from just East of Laverton, through to Rawlinna and Eucla.

Tjukayirla has had over 230mm since the 4th March 2024, and they have been in the centre of the rain band.

There's some great photos on Rawlinna Stations FB page.

Cheers, Ron.

Got to approx 60km south of the lake before turning back. Ground got to soft. No sign of flooding at that point.

It’s no place to be in even a little bit of rain.

A record rain is worse

I saw on the news where some clown in a 2WD vehicle rocked up at Warakurna Roadhouse, expecting to be able to drive straight through to Laverton on the GCR, without a problem!!

Long stretches of the GCR are still under water and the GCR is STILL CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC!

And it appears it will be many days before it is opened again.

Ensure you check the links in my first post, for road conditions before you set out!

Cheers, Ron.

Drove Perth to Vic last week on the Eyre Hwy. Lots of standing water off the road in places & deep ruts where vehicles had left the bitumen. Very green & unexpected (to me) result were stretches of highway with clouds of grasshoppers splatting on the windscreen. Road itself remains in good condition in the flood affected area.

The Trans-Line is only just going to be re-opened from midday Easter Saturday (30th March 2024).

That means the line has been closed for 20 days. I cannot ever remember a Trans-Line closure that lasted this long.
