Thanks to all those replies, last month re my big trip. The decision has been made
to tow. The Troopy idea idea got passed after I drove one for a day, the old back
would'nt stand it for 6 months! The Hilux type motorhomes I found a bit
cumbersome to drive, so towing it is.
Have just picked a 80 series GXL Landcruiser {petrol] with some good mods,
Hayman tow hitch, dual batteries, alloy bullbar, off a golfing mate, 2 trips around
Aus towing a van and never been off road or on the beachs, intend to spend a bit of money on the suspension.
Been talking to some van manufacturers , mainly Bushtracker and Trakmaster,
and am very impressed with the Trakmaster 14ft with all the gear,A/C, Solar
Generator ,Ensuite, Trakair suspension , wont be cheap, but this will be my home
for 6/9 months and as there is only self to look after intend to to be very
comfortable! Bushtaker, great van , but over engineered for me, while I want a
van that can go off road, this is not a dedicated 4x4 trip, just go where I like
within reason.
OK questions.
Shocks for 80 Cruiser[ The old ones are very weary]
Internet in the Outback [Know I can use Email via UHF but only text]???
More questions later, hope to take off May next year.
