Hi All

I have finally had my designs for a custom camper trailer put down on paper by a draftsman and now need to send out to various manufacturers for quotes.

I only need the trailer itself made as I have not decided on who I will get to do the top canvas sections.

If anybody has any ideas of a good trailer company that likes doing Custom work I would appreciate there contact details...

Thanks

Hi Bear,

I got my off-road trailer manufactured by Great Western Trailers @ Granville.

They are located at Unit 3/ 262 Parramatta Rd Granville 2142
Contact Number is (02) 9897 7951

I found they build a really strong and sturdy trailer, but you need to talk them through the design. If your design is different to what they usually manufacture, they will try to convince you that their way is better.

An example of the above statement is I wanted to specifically use a Hyland 2000 coupling. I even had attached to my design the drawing of the coupling, and the contact details of the manufacturer.

They said that they don't use this coupling, only the treg coupling. I had to strongly state that I wanted this coupling, & if they would not build it into the trailer, then I would find a trailer supplier who would.

Once they understand what you require, they build a good unit.

Hope this helps

Australian RV Trailers (Caboolture, Q'ld.) will do custom (one-off) work...
There is a link to their site in the relevant section on this site....
Or go to www.austrvtrailers.com .. Ph (07) 5495 3947 ..... You can also have the canvas work done in-house if you wish.... (better way to go, IMO)...
Had my tandem hard-floor made by them, & we (Mrs. & self) are very happy overall with the workmanship & general "liveability" of the camper...
Very easy people to deal with... I would highly recommend them....

Bear,

If you have a new design before you put it out in the public eye you should - and probably already have - get a IP design registration, so that it is protected from others using your design and ideas.

We're just been thru all this and are about to put our boat loader/roof rack on the market.

Good luck with the trailer!

Bill

Can you give me some more detail on the IP design rego.

I have had a few calls today from trailer manufacturers who have commented on how good the ideas were - maybe I should get onto this in a hurry....
Thanks

Bear,
Brightweld at kings park near blacktown are specialist aluminium fabricators and manufacture service bodies for industry in both steel and aluminium. They have done specialist custom work for me in the past and really now there stuff and are more than happy to bulid to your specifications, and in most cases can give you a budget price based on your drawings.
They are at unit 8/12 garling rd Kings park nsw 2148 ( yes they are in the same complex as 4wd wharehouse) thats how i found them, there contact number is 02-9676 7719 or fax 02-9676 1364 and the bloke you need to talk to is Adam. The one thing that impressed me about them is if what you wont done is not practical they will tell you or if there is someone better to do the work they will recommend them to you. All in all a good honest company to deal with which is why i am happy to recommend them.
