Last Thursday I ordered a set of airbags for my GU from Trucksprings.com (Michigan USA) after advise from this forum. Well, only 7 days later they have arrived on my doorstep. All up cost delivered to my door was $170 whereas the best I could get locally was $330 pickup. Looks like I will be having fun fitting them this weekend.

It has got me buggered why we have to pay so much for EXACTLY the same product. I would rather support a local 4X4 store, but not when they are virtually twice the price. Is this just another blatant example of ripping off consumers because they think we have no alternative?

Thanks to all those who gave me contact details etc...Just this alone has saved me more than my membership cost several times over and is a good reason for those who may be considering joining this site.

Cheers

Captain,
Let us know how you go, will be doing the same in the next few months when SWMBO loosens the purse strings, have currently got snow chains on the way for her Impreza. Same story, $100 cheaper, even with $90 postage bill.

Yep same deal for my Landcruiser - took about a week to arrive and were easy to contact on the net and arranged for me to get ones about 2" higher than standard Landcruiser springs and same diameter. Mine cost about $180 Australian but the Aussie dollar was in the doldrums then. I would have been happy if they got here in a week from Sydney!

Have fun fitting them. Was not too hard but took me about four hours!

Captain,
Well done, glad to hear everything went so well, because I have just placed an order with them for a set for the 80 series. Fitting them should be fun. NOT.

So what happens if they are wrong? You cant go to local store, or if theybleepthemselves, you also cant call into local store for warranty...

Truckster,

Good questions, I asked myself the same things before I bought the coil-rites from these people. The best price I could obtain locally was $324- for the same product from a supplier in Meadowbank NSW. But having them sent from America to my front door, it is only costing me $186-. So for me, the saving of $136 was worth the risk.

I here what you are saying Truckster, but for $330 vs $170, I am prepared to take that risk. If supplied wrong, simply return and cancel payment - not a big deal. If warranty is required, well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

As I said earlier, I would rather support a local store. But I simply cannot justify nearly double the price for the same product.

The part number was CR 4129 and thats for the complete kit - bags, airline, valves , heatshield etc... I looked up the airbag man (aussie) website and they have the complete listings. These are the same part numbers as used by Firestone themselves. I originally wanted to buy local, but not at the price difference. $20-$50 difference and would have gone local, but $160 !!!

I have just finished fitting it, took just on 2 hours and seems to work well. All parts fitted properly, longest bit was running the airlines and protecting them from any stray stones etc... Also, I put the airlines inside on my draw system side panel, did not want them external to the vehicle. Just about to go for a test drive...

Captain, (or others)

Interested how you have found these, especially with compromise of 'around town - no load' and also 'off road - heavy load'

Hi Ivan,

Around town with 5 psi, no noteciable difference except the ride height is back to normal (after all the accessories in the rear). Have yet to use them hard offroad or tow with them. Will post when I do.

Cheers
