I am considering travelling the Great Central Road east to west this winter. Nothing definite at this stage, but putting out a feeler for anyone who might be interested in joining me. I am a mature (older) male travelling alone.
Post here if interested and we will go from there.

Hi Bob.
Might help if you include a bit about your travelling outfit to narrow it down a bit.
Your travelling habits like how many hours a day and speeds.
If your used to doing your own thing it can get frustrating. EG, if your travelling in a Ute and swag can garantee you will get over a couple towing a $300 000 caravan pretty quick.

Go a lone, take your time you will meet plenty of good people that way you can come and go as you please that way you don't have to put up with a clown. So many people change when they loose site of the last traffic lights and it is not always the other driver.

Hi Bob C,

I am also a mature aged male (72), and owing to my wife’s Heath issues have travelled solo on several occasions. Just came back from Qld. solo a couple of weeks ago.

The last major outback solo trip was back in 2023 when I did an East to West crossing through the Simpson Desert, and The Oodnadatta Track.

2022, Melbourne to Middle Lagoon on the Dampier Peninsular via the Tanami Track and back. Camped in campgrounds the first couple of nights, then just pulled off the road at suitable spots.

I have never felt afraid, but I do pick my camping sites so that I am not visible from the road.

What vehicle will you be using?, will you be taking a van/camper with you?, I am sorta interested, BUT, more likely to want to share a vehicle, otherwise, I would come by Adventure Bike, we have only one motorvehicle( and a motorbike), and the car would have to stay with my wife.

My bike has approx 600km range with fuel bladders as extras. This potential trip for me is a big IF, at this stage.

I am also 65yo.

Hi Richard,
Could be of interest, but like you I am only a big IF as well.
As I am not very IT savvy, do you know of any way we can contact each other through this forum without disclosing our contact details to the world?
Email or phone would be OK.

Bob, I also don't know how to contact thru this app, their must be a way though.

I have just sent a query to Michelle, the owner of the forum, to ask how to contact each other.

Well Bob, I am not a member of this app, so I don't know how we are going to get in touch, unless maybe you join the Grey Nomads forum, for which I am a member, and it has a private messaging service for free. Over there my user name is Bicyclecamper.

.
Easy Peasy Richard and Bob.
If you click on "My Profile" at the bottom of this message, then click on "About Me" you will see a few lines of text. In them is my email address. Each of you just send me a short message to that address and I will forward them on and you will then have each other's address without the Whole World knowing.
But you will need to trust me to not sell your addresses to some mailing list. lol

Cheers
Allan

Further to my initial post, I am now in the planning and preparation stages for my trip across the Great Central Road. The trip is now as definite as can be at this stage, with only unforseen events likely to cause cancellation. June is the chosen month.
I will be travelling in a Mitsubishi Pajero with a camper trailer in tow. Mostly bush camps with perhaps the occasional commercial camp thrown in.
I intend to travel fairly sedately and not rush through. I am aware of the time restrictions on the permits though.
I am still interested in having other similar travellers join me for the journey if there is anyone out there who is interested.

Bob.
