Well it has started bigger than the last recorded 1974 flood levels in Central Western Outback Queensland, and I have been told that there has been massive stock losses already.

Jundah is inundated with floodwater and people have evacuated to the evac centre at the Jundah Golf Club. There is no power or mobile phone reception.

I am in contact with Government Departments for the latest and most accurate updates. At this stage, it looks like the Cooper Creek ferry over the Birdsville Track will be put into action, but that is another story.

As the reports are changing very quickly, it’s going to be hard to post here, so if you need the latest updates, please follow my private Facebook page.

Keep Safe everyone and think of all those living in these areas.

The trouble with their site far from accurate.

That data is only from the 12 March and western Queensland has gone under water.

I tried to load an image from Stonehenge yesterday where there is over 2 metres of water covering, Jundah has been evacuated to the vac centre, with no power and mobile phone coverage, with the water there peaking at over 8 metres.

This is the information I supply, not something that is 3 weeks old.

In the past, they seemed to get more serious with their predictions as the water gets closer to the lake.

But like I said the water in the Marree area is for local heavy rain, not the total flooding rains from Queensland that will make it here into South Australia

Hi again Peter.

As stated before, I prefer the very latest information on the flooding, as unfortunately it is not making the news, and from all reports it is only going to get worse over the coming weeks.

Here is an example of my latest updates from 10am today…..

The Cooper’s Creek is still rising at Windorah, and was at 8.75m this morning and they have lost all mobile phone coverage.

Some of the creeks a little north have dropped around 20cm overnight, the they are all expected to rise again rappidly from the floodwaters north of Longreach.

eg….the Aramac Creek is currently running higher than the biggest 1974 floods, and water will then hit the Thomson River, around 60 kilometres north of Longreach.

Unlike our last big floods here in South Australia back in 2010 and 2011, the Cooper Creek area was in drought and the flow of water was greatly slowed down by the parched soil absorbing the water.

Now here in 2025 the hole area in our northern areas is already underwater for local flooding, so this time they expect once the water does hit the Cooper here in South Australia, it will hit with vengeance.

Keep Safe.

Sad, my thoughts are with you, but probably a good time to try and book your Lake Eyre trip.

I have a couple of locals and personal friends so far, one from Mungerannie and a friend further north where it’s flood at Boulia and another one at Jundah.

Those member will be able to give the most accurate and up to date information as the floodwaters head south.

Still trying to contact a few station people along the Birdsville Track and also have the Department of Infrastructure and Transport on side as well.

Great chat with Cindy from Mungerannie tonight. She said they are quiet at the moment and they are doing a few renovations as there is no traffic coming south as the Birdsville Track is closed further north.

Hope you enjoy the site.

Cheers

Stephen

Thanks Stephen, will be watching it closely. We are in Silverton & now waiting to head north. Yesterday morning the road up to Tibooburra was still open but that is no longer the case. We think we may ‘retreat’ to Menindee to wait, and move north when we can. Local info will be very helpful. Are you in contact with Packsaddle Roadhouse?

I have lots of phones to make today, to get as many businesses and locals that live in these areas to join the site for the best local updates.

So far I have the Mungerannie Hotel, a friend from Jundah and Bedourie to give their first hand reports.

The more reports I am reading, it’s not looking good and ready there has been thousands of head of stock drowned.

All reports are saying bigger and more extensive than the 1974 floods.

Please keep a lookout on the page for the latest updates.

Keep Safe.

My grandson is working on a cattle station about an hour out from Windorah. He phoned me yesterday. They hadn't had any rain for 3 days at that stage, and water levels on the property were falling, but there is a lot of water yet to come down the Cooper Creek, so they are socked in for quite a while. They cannot get out into the paddocks, and were mustering their cattle to higher ground using 3 helicopters.

Unfortunately they are expecting more heavy rain next week.

One of my contacts at innamincka said that their daughters station have 7 helicopters in the air mustering their cattle into the sand dune country ang lighter ground.

Already thousands of heads of cattle and sheep have died.

Have a look at me new Facebook page 2025 Outback Floods, some of the images are just devastating

Take care.

Thargomindah is cut off and The Adventure Way is closed as the floodplain between the Naccowlah oil fields and the Cooper Creek bridge near the Ballera gas fields is flooded and under water,

These are the biggest floods on history, eclipsing 100 year old records

This is the sad reality of the devastating floods

I drove a VW Kombi camper from Alice Springs to Adelaide via Uluru and the Stuart Highway with 4 adults and 2 children aboard during the floods of 1974. It took 9 days.
One of the greatest adventures of my life (and we have the pics to prove it).
We had no communications, but regular fixed wing aircraft checked on our progress and family watched our progress on the news.
In hindsight it was a miracle that we got through.
Cheers,
Peter
