I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, however as it was recommended to use the device for those of us that have an OEM head unit and need to run Traveller (Android app) I thought some of you may have some experience if you purchased one.

Mine has been working perfectly for the last 6 months. The last 3 weeks almost daily as we travel. Three times today the screen went blank and I needed to restart the device to get it working.

Its not an Exploreoz Traveller issue as I used Sygic as a experiment and it did the same.

So it can only be the carlinkit device.
Has anyone had similar experience and if so is there a solution if it continues having its hissy fits?

Have you done the OTA update on the device, it may help with the problem as I was having trouble with Sygic until I updated the firmware.

Thanks, I have never touched it from the day I had it working.

I wasn't game as it took me a couple of attempts to get it functioning.

I have just checked and it seems it must have auto updated as it shows 2025 05 06. It must have auto updated as it shows current when I checked to verify.

bungarra.
Have you thought the add-on devices may be near a heater in a vehicle and is getting TOO HOT sometimes?
OR
The units are being fed from a source who's voltage is lowered through load etc, sometimes, and that results in insufficient voltage to continue to run the unit in question. ie, Aircon & Fan loading causing voltage drops at times.
If then vehicle.has a so called Smart Alternator, it may be lowering system voltage at times too. I would check anything so related before accusing the device itself.

Thanks, however the device sits in the same place as it always has.

That is, on the shelf immediately below the head unit on a dedicated short USB lead feed input that is specifically for the OEM head unit.

Ambient temperatures the last few days have been high 20's with no air-conditioning

It has never been issue in the past even in high 30's temp and the air-conditioning going and and a dcdc load to a caravan.

It turned off 3 times in a row on the last leg of a trip on Monday and we have been parked up since.

We are moving on today for a few hundred km and so hopefully it will not do it again. If it does then it is a device issue.

It has dropped out once or maybe twice a few months ago but in those cases it didn't repeat the issue immediately like it did the other day.

Hopefully today its back to normal for some reason as I am relying on using it for Traveller for my waypoints to some old well offroad favourite treks and places of many years ago.

If not, then I will use Traveller on my tablet however its handy having it on the OEM screen at a glance when driving. I have got accustomed to that

It may not be the CarLink device - it could be the headunit itself as low RAM or low GPU could cause it to drop out. Our EC Vision headunit drops out multiple times a day yet none of the other 8 test devices we run ever drop out including another Android headunit. Happy to converse further via Help Desk if you raise a support ticket.

Thanks David & Michelle. I appreciate you making comment and offering help via the help desk.

Today we only travelled 200km and it behaved itself. I won't bother you over the next 4 or 5 days as we will be doing short offroad treks revisiting old haunts...sort of a nostalgic trip from the swags and then camper trailer days.

If it starts being a pain and dropping out regularly then I will make contact.

The vehicle is a Landcruiser 300 GXL if that helps as far as head unit specs goes.

Glad to hear your short camp out was beneficial to you both. Hope its all going to work out for you and you can resume your lifestyle before too long.

Can I ask how does the Carlinkit device work with your HF radio? Does it generate any rf interference? I “had” a VHEDIA unit in our 76 series cruiser and it was awful. The double usb socket generated lots of noise typical of low quality switch mode adapters, unplugged it and that cleaned up part of the problem but the head unit generated a squealing sound heard on hf from 5mhz through to 9mhz. VKS ch2 was difficult to listen to. Having the Codan radio on scan resulted in it stopping all the time due to the noise. Am contemplating a brand name radio and using the adapter but am worried it too might generate noise. Thanks. Tony VKS 4757

Tony, the Carlinkit is basically a small Android device similar to a mobile phone so don't see it causing any interference with any other device.

thanks, I'd like to hope they dont cause an issue. I am keen to find anyone who might have one with a HF radio in their vehicle. No one thought the Android OS radio we got would cause interference. When we started asking the dealer advised they had not used the radio with HF so didnt really know if it would be ok. I dont have a spare wad of cash to keep buying radios to try in the hope they work. It would be great if you could get a local dealer with a unit to try first but I havent found any although a trip to Sydney could be fun. Thanks for the reply
