Hi everyone,

Welcome to the ExplorOz Forum! For 25 years, this has been a place where travellers, adventurers, and enthusiasts share ideas, tips, stories, and information about exploring Australia. To keep it helpful and welcoming for everyone, here are some key guidelines:

Be respectful: Critique ideas, not people. Avoid personal attacks, name-calling, or low-ball comments. If you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face, don’t post it.

Stay helpful: Share tips, information, and advice. Aim to contribute something useful to the discussion.

Links are fine, self-promotion isn’t: You may share external links to provide information (government sites, news articles, etc.), but repeatedly promoting your own pages or social media is not allowed.

Check before you post: Draft, re-read, and use Preview before posting. Remember, the way you write shapes how other members see you. If your posts constantly nitpick others or focus on big-noting yourself, you’ll create a persona that isn’t likeable. In society, we naturally avoid people who make us feel bad, and online it’s the same — tension is immediately noticed in how others respond to your name in future posts. Be mindful of your tone, aim to contribute positively, and you will “reap what you sow.” You can edit posts until someone replies; after that, edits are locked. A simple “Sorry – I messed up” is always okay.

Fact-check and clarify: Share accurate information and clearly distinguish between verified facts and personal opinion.

Respect moderators: Moderators are volunteers dedicated to keeping the Forum running smoothly. Posts may be moderated or removed if they breach rules, are self-promotional, or contain personal attacks. Moderators cannot edit posts to “fix” them, so it’s up to each member to ensure their contributions follow the guidelines.

Remember: online writing can easily be misinterpreted because it lacks the tone and nuance of spoken conversation. Keeping your posts clear, factual, friendly, and respectful helps everyone have a positive experience.

Let’s continue making the ExplorOz Forum a helpful, encouraging, and friendly community for years to come.
