I have done the rounds of the wreckers, new equipment suppliers, Toyota, eBay, shopping centre carparks, etc etc etc (sound like ex Governor Richard Butler???? ) with no success in locating this part.

I would like to know if someone could steer me to anyone who could fabricate a bracket that attaches to the body of my 1991 80 Series GXL Cruiser, comes up behind the plastic part of the bumper which is then attached to the carrier through the plastic part of the bumper.

My young bloke got the carrier for me second hand and it works fine, but the extra bracket (which did not come with it) will make it "off-road-worthy. My concern is taht without the bracket the stresses will eventually elongate the holes holding it on now and disaster will strike.

I don't have a drawing or anything, so this is from a cold start.

I am in Gosford, 80km north of Sydney.

Many thanks
Jack

Hi Jack,

Is your carrier the "Caddy" type?

I used to have one and I bought the bracket from Opposite Lock - a 4x4 chain here in WA. I don't know if you have the stores over there.

It cost me about $90 for the bracket and bolts all in a bag with instructions. I was in the same predicament.

I would recommend you get one as mine definitely needed it especially with the jack attached to it.

Try looking up opposite lock on the web and maybe send them an email. They should know what you're talking about.
They may even send with freight charges.

Here, try this link;

and last photo bottom of page will confirm if yours is a caddy or not.

HI Chris:

I got the carrier bracket from Opposite Lock. Very helpful guys. They look OK, but I am trying to figure out how the one that goes behind the plastic bumper fits in (I ended up with TWO brackets - one of which I already had ... Do you still have the instructions they gave you? Mine did not have any. Alternatively, can you remember how it was fitted. I am not sure what part of my 4WD I need to remove to fit it.

Many thanks.

Jack

Thanks heaps!!! That looks exactly like it. Shall get in touch with them tomorrow.
The "cattle dog" says a 60 series - mine is an 80 Series but it looks the goods. Mine is on the drivers side, but I am sure they can match it. Greatly appreciated.
