Not sure about the TJM roof rack, but I had to sell my old roof rack (GQ full length alloy tradesman type) as the roof size is slightly smaller on the GU.
If it fit the GQ and is not adjustable, my guess is you will be up for a new one like myself.
regards

Hi,
If for whatever reason you like your old rack, Then get them to cut it down the center from front to back and get them to shorten it. I am sure it would be cheaper to modify than to get a new one. Maybe dont to go TJm as they will probably charge you more, see a local aluminium
shop and find out the price.
I have an old alloy TJM full lenght rack on my GQ. its gotta be over 12 years old now and never see a crack in it. Has been loaded up heavily on a few trips too. Always came through strong and still does.
Hope this gives you more ideas.
Angelo

AWILL4x4 that frequents here and a few other fourms makes alloy racks, they have a brilliant reputation amongst clubs down here (Nissan and Paj) and have been all over aussie without issue..
Alloy racks, I think they are a good thing, so much lighter than steel.. My steel one with ply on it, took 3 people to lift onto the roof of my GQ.

out of luck the rack wont just swap over, as others have said the cheapest option is to get it cut down the centre and modified to suit if you around the blacktown nsw area go to brightweld in the same complex as tjm they are specialist aluminium and stainless steel fabricaters and have done a few jobs for me in the past all at resonable pricing

GQ and GU are different sizes.. Search the archives, Andrew has posted the differences here before on roof sizes, heights, and gutter measurements.

The two are definitely different. I have modified a GQ racy to fit a GU and I don't need it anymore. If you’re interested it's for sale.
Sydney area. $450.00

Sorry to say but it won't fit. GU gutters average approx 1315mm wide, GQ gutters average 1365mm wide so the GU's are about 50mm narrower. The gutters also sit further up on the roofline so GU racks need to be about 30-35mm shorter than GQ's.
As for cutting a rack apart and rewelding, I wouldn't even consider doing it. Each cut crossmember then needs internal sleeving to try and get some strength back into it. Also if the rack has a mesh floor each cut mesh section needs to be rewelded which has it's own problems of annealing the mesh inbetween each crossmember. It's more trouble than it's worth.
Regards Andrew.
