Did YOU back a winner?

Well, usually I have managed to back winners throughout my 46 years spinning around our central star!

My choice of colour for my School home team, green... always won.

My choice of cars, Fords, never any trouble.

My choice of women, Tracy, 27 years on...

My choice of Video format, VHS... ( who remembers Beta?)

My choice of cameras, Ricohs ( 20 years ago ), good solid cast bodies, just go on forever, and I mean forever, ( like Tracy).

I have had them both fully seviced, and re-calibrated, and they are just wonderful clunkers. I have so many lenses for these babies. Beautiful solid manual cameras. I even have a Canon EOS 300, it’s okay, just doesn’t have the bullet proof feel...

So, why am I writing all this? It appears that Ilford (UK) is about to close. The backbone company of photographic paper for Black & White film has gone into receivership. Sales for this type of paper have dropped 26% this year alone.
Now, Ilford is not a dinosaur, they have an ink plant in Switzerland, which caters for the digital printing industry.

It won’t be long before other analogue film makers / paper suppliers hit the wall. I know it’s inevitable, but I have held out on going digital, because I just have a soft spot for my old Ricoh’s.

Oh, I can buy a Canon D something or rather with a cast magnesium body........ for $5000.00 or so......

If only I had known 20 years ago to just wait a little longer!

Cheers

Wolfie

Hmmmm...........

Picture this.......

Ian pulls out a $5000.00 Camera at the picnic. Tracy says "Ian, what's that you've got there?"

Talk about entertainment for the troops!! She'd go ballistic Steve, you don't wanna be there. It's bad enough that she has just found out she has to cook.....

"I thought you said Stuart was cooking for everyone!"

"No love, just for himself"

So, if she's leaning over the fire cooking, and I snap a photo with the new camera, it'll be the last thing I'll ever do in this lifetime!

Either tell her it only cost $500 ( thats what Roachie does) or just buy a $300 one for now and put the $5000 job on the Xmas list.
I can see this cooking thing is going to be fun especially when I tell you all what the competitions are are.
Yes we have fun comps. and some prizes too. Whoooo Hoooo

Buy yourself one, wrap it up, put a precious EO sticker on the package, then mail it to yourself, and tell her you won it here.... eat this message after you do it tho.

Good to see you completely back too

Nothing lasts forever, Ian

Adapt or die...the saying goes.

So we have to embrace the technology and try to get our tiny brains around all the aspects of what this new stuff is all about.

I was going to throw the 25yo Minolta in the wheelie bin. 'Oh No' she cried,' I will use it again'. Pigs A...... It will gather dust inside the cupboard and end up at a Garage Sale for some camera buff to buy for a song. Digital cameras are so easy to operate that even I can take a half decent picture and that with a cheapie!

Within the next five years developing film may be relegated to the Museum of Ancient History.

"Within the next five years developing film may be relegated to the Museum of Ancient History."

Too true........

Thing is, at the age of 46, I can go into an "Antique" shop, and see stuff I used to use when I was like 15.........

What you may ask? How's about those bloody 4 in 1 mouse traps!! Used to have like 10 of them, have to set them each night, and leave them around the Homestead. Sounds simple enough...... think about it...... 4 in 1...... and there was ALWAYS one of the four that had to have a hair trigger! Yep...... the other three would ALWAYS go off in your hand!

Cheers Willie...... sorry we won't see ya at the TBP.

Cheers

Hey Wolfie,
Ithink Gajms advice to eat his message should applie to this thread.

"just go on forever, and i mean forever, (like Tracey)"

"ihave had them both fully serviced, re-caliberated, ............. wonderful clunkers"

Is Tracey EVER likely to see thisthread????????? and how would she take to being called an old clunker and you discussing your personal life here. Would you ever be able to take photos again???
