howdy all,
How's things?
Just a quick one. I'm looking 2 hire a SAT phone in the near future & while I see a few lists/ posts on who hires them, has anyone got any good goss on good deals/ rates? I live in Gippsland in Victoria ( get 2 melbs pretty often ) & looking to use it rafting the mighty
Franklin river!

I'm not really up to speed on sat phones, but don't they like not work real good if you're in a ravine, like the
Franklin?
Actually, it will be good to see those that DO know, and see how good they really are say in Tassie on the river........

you should be able to pick up a phone for around $100/week, maybe a little more if you are only using it for a week!
Iridium phones will work okay in a ravine, assuming that you still have a fair percentage of open sky, so if it is a ravine, covered by vegetation, with a closed canopy, it will be a different story.
Of the two types of handheld sat phones, Iridium requires a smaller 'window' of sky, to operate than the other one.
