Hi everyone, question? What the ..... can I do about the seats in my 80 series? Who ever designed them was out to lunch, I have a crocked back and I need to replace with something other than a $1200 Stratus! Any brilliant ideas would be much appreciated.

Johnny,

Try pump up lumbar supports, they make a difference. Well, in the small of your back, anyway.

After having 2 80 series, think they got the seats out of a hilux! There's better seats in the 79 series.

Hooroo...

I just popped down to the local wrecker and picked up some very smick looking velour seats from a old mitsubishi cordia to replace the patrol ones - $150 the pair. Just takes some creative thinking and a few bolts and flat bar steel from bunnings to fit.

I got hold of a second hand KAB 303 truck suspension seat, which I have been doing up (new shock absorber and seat tensioner), and finally got an 80 series mounting bracket for it from KAB. Worked fine, but have just taken it out as the 80 Series will soon be for sale. Watch eBay - still needs a bit of work, but is almost there.

I agree with bikkies.

I went to wrecker in greenacre when I lived in sydney, and got some full on recaro replicas for $300pr if I remember correctly.

They were Cloth Trim, but brilliant seats out of some Grey Import car. they went into my rodeo ute.. Any wrecker that does grey imports should be able to help u.

Keep your eye on Tradingpost/ebay etc. I got a pr of Paratus second hand for $200ish pr. :) the do need recovering though - $40 seat covers fixed that.

G'day Johnny

Depending on how far you want to go, you could always look at getting the seats re-covered and have them put in some extra padding while they're at it. I had the vinyl seats in my STD 100 Series recovered in cloth for $600 (front and rear including head rests) which beats the heck out of seat covers! They're now much more comfortable and came up looking fantastic. I had a Hilux for about 6 years and often drove 1000 km's per week, the seats were shocking. I had a pump up lumbar added but was never happy with it, sometimes it moved within the seat, but more importantly it never really fit my lower back at all - would have been about as usefull as jamming a wine cask up behind the seat cover!

Thanks everyone, firstly for Jack how much do you want for your KAB and does it have an adjusting seat (the horizontal seat my arse sits on)? I've tried re upholstering already and not much better.
cheers

Around $350.

If you can give me an email address I can give you the full details. I can send photos at the end of the week if you are interested, when I get my digitial cam back. It is with my wife who is on an excursion with her students.

No idea where you live, but this seat is seriously *HEAVY*.

It adjusts (slides) forward and back, the back adjusts, and the seat (where the arse goes) adjusts up and down from the front. So that is a 3 way adjustment. It is also on a torsion bar which is adjustable to your weight via a small lever at the side. I ditched the armrests (well, it only came with one, anyway).

KAB Seating Website will give you specs for the KAB330.

Well , I fixed mine by raising using 35mm spacers under the mounts then a
layer of that high density sleeping bag mat foam on the squab covered with sheep skin covers . Works a treat for my build - read 75 kgs .& 6' 1" .

For Jack,
Thanks for the info my email is jonathanmills@froggy.com.au. I live near Tweed on the Queensland border. the important thig for me is that the seat part tilts, most seats have too much of an angle for my back and I need to be able to make a seat go down where my thighs sit.
many thanks
