Okay........ as some of you may know........
I am the proud owner of a Canon EOS 300 D. This compliments my existing Canon Lenses.
Okay........
Here we go......
I run Apple Macs exclusively. All with Adobe Photoshop 7 & Adobe Image Ready.
I am not hoping to have to go through a huge learning curve just to resize my photos to upload.
The way I see it, is all I have to do is simply resize the picture. What is the quickest way of doing this?
If I want to go all fancy, and manipulate my images, I will use Photoshop, but to simply put up quick grab shots, what is the quickest means?
I simply want to be able to downsize a JPEG from 3.1 mB down to? with what...... 72 dpi....
Cheers in advance......
Totally Out There Digital Lifestyle Wolf.......... look out........

Um if you right click on the thumbnail can you pick edit? If so does it then go into paint. If in paint go to image, stretch/skew, change horizontal & vertical % fiddle around until you get the size you want.
I know nuth'n too. Works for me.
Cheers

Hi LF:
In Photoshop:
1. Load your image (File/Open)
2. Resize it to the size you want it (Image/Image Size ... then fill in the dimensions).
3. Then, File/Save For Web (this will reduce your file size).
That is rougly how to go about it. There are fancier ways, but that will get you there.

Using Photoshop resize the image to 640X?. Save to web which will reduce from a 1mb picture to 100kb.

Apple freak huh?
Supposedly the main attraction of the Apple computer world is the ability to handle Multimedia files. Apples have been the favourite of the graphic design industry for years.
Can't give you much help regarding quick and dirty methods of making small graphics files because I am a PC person but this is supposed to be the Apple strength!
I would do as suggested above and just use the resize function in Photoshop to crank the images right down to about 50k.
Best of luck and look forward to seeing your photos!

Hey Muddy, those apples are supposed to be so intuitive we should not be asked advice on such issues as you should just 'know' how it is done. After all that is why Apple people chose Apple.
All the survey data showed they were easier to contact your date with Apple computers but easier to work with the PC format.
Well that was US data. LOL
Our first puter was an Apple but then we needed software to work in industry..... I prefer my apples peeled and in a fruit salad or in a pie.

The truth of the matter is that if everybody had Apple macs we Apple mac people wouldn’t have a problem. It’s that we have to go to such lengths so that those of you with those big calculators can see what we want you to see.
Regards all.

Wolfie,
If you are in a hurry it may be easier to just downsize them on the camera before uploading onto the net. I do this with my Sony. Take picture at 5.1MP, make a copy in the VGA setting, upload to computer and stick the VGA copy onto photobucket, found this to be quick and easy

Easy At least with Windows anyhow ). .
In photoshop 5.5+
go: File > Automate > Batch > Web Photo Gallery All the photos can be batched amd made into a photo gallery and you could just use those.
Paint
Shop Pro also does batch processing Like resizing etc

Open your photo in Photoshop. Under File menu go to Save for Web. You can choose any format (JPEG, TIFF etc). Click the image size tab and adjust width/height to the desired size. Then save.
Alternatively, transfer from camera using iPhoto and click 'email'. You don't get to control the compression though.
I'm glad to see there is at least one other sensible person on this list (Mac user). We have three G4s, a G3 Powerbook, and an eMac all connected to an Airport Extreme base station which links them all to the Telstra satellite internet connection. Unfortunately, Telstra doesn't support Macs yet and I have to use an old Wintel as the internet server. No problem though, Airport Extreme connects to any computer, and Apple makes software to enable Windows to control the base station. Using Remote Desktop Connection any of the Macs on the network can emulate the wintel and control the satellite connection.
I just built a G4 with my son. He acquired a Gigabit ethernet mother board. I bought a dual 500 MHz processor from eBay ($120). I bought an old wintel ATX power supply ($10) and made a 28V switching power supply (needed by this mobo) which converts 12 volts to 28. We put it all together and it works :-)

Considering the cost of lenses I would think that is reason enough. Canons are great digital cameras too.

No real particular reason.....
I also have a Canon EOS 300 Film camera, which I am happy with.
Pentax........
I have 2 fully manual Ricoh's , which sport the Pentax K mount. I've got LOTSA lenses for these babies!
Anyway....... I can't comment on the new Pentax Digital, nor the Canon for that matter, because I havn't owned it long enough.
In all honesty, I don't think you would go wrong with either purchase. As far a serious photography is concernerd....... I used to enter into comps. regularly...... with my old Ricohs.......
At the end of the day, it's just a dark box, which lets light in....... spend the money on good glass.
Cheers

Nudie,
Just for information sake, Pentax always had a very poor reputation for "robustness" and reliability with two exceptions, the K1000 and the F1.
Canon always considered the best for back-up service, Nikon for reliability.
