I got sick & tired of my 12 volt stuff not working correctly. I have been obviously using inferior combination plugs. I have been using the Hella / Cigar combo plugs, and they don't always make good contact.

Bit the bullet, and bought 7 Arrid Combo Plugs. These are NICE plugs, well bulit & well thought out. Everything go a new Arrid plug tonight!

I also bought a 300 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter, and had an Anderson Plug fitted to it.

This Wolf's all wired up & ready to go!

Cheers

Right-o, Wolfie,

Whats an Arrid plug?
Why are they good?

I been thinkin' about upgrading my standard two sockets in the rear, and to put another plug in the front so's I can power up the GPS all the time, independant of ignition switch. The iPod also uses the ciggy lighter now, so the GPS & the iPod piggy back in there. Most unsatisfactory-the $ 8.50 double adaptor falls out after a few k's.......

Piccies please, with the new digi camera

Rick......

All I did was go to arrid.com.au printed the page and showed my Auto Electrician.

He had 7 for me next day. Don't know how much they are, havn't had the account yet.

The one major difference between the Arrid & the previous ones I used is this.....

When you remove the little red adaptor, to go from Cigar to Hella, the older plugs only had one contact point on the side, the Arris has 2.

Now, I have never lost food in my fridge because of this, but I use a CPAP, and it is annoying when the plug fails during the night.

I will be posting some piccies in a few weeks on my site, but I've got too many other things to do just now.....

Cheers

That's a good move with the GPS Rick.
I got sick of having to turn it back on after the ignition turned off, I keep the batteries out when not needed. I fitted an external antenna with the cable feeding in under the dash cover mat to the GPS which is mounted mostly on the passengers side, SWMBO keeps an eye on the speed.
I fed permanent power (fused) to a plug mounted high in the panel under the dash on the LHS above the passengers feet. The GPS power cable tucks in around the edge of the dash in the rubber door seal and under the mat with the antenna cable. Looks neat and stays on 24/7, I usually throw an old rag over to hide it if I'm away from the vehicle.

G'day Wolfie,
An inverter is my next purchase and the decision I'm facing is to pure sine or to modified sine at a much lower price. Are you able to get a smaller pure sine than the 300w unit.
Can you member message me where you can buy them from and approx cost please. My options are a bit limited up here. Thanks

Des.....

Here we go.....

I run a 125 Modified. This was bought 4 years ago to run a laptop to connect to a telescope, so we could track via the computer.

Force Electronics, about $90.00

I then bought a 150 watt Modified. This is a Motomate brand. The ONLY reason I bought this is because Res Med, the makers of my CPAP, sell them. If things go wrong, I've done what they told me.

Res Med Sydney, about $160.00 8 months ago.

I just bought a DSE 300 Pure Sine Wave, for $230.00. I had to open it up and tighten the Earth screw, and I will use some 3/16" BSW Nutserts to attach the chassis to the cover, they only use self tappers, in Aluminium....... wrong......

I bought this, because in winter, I use a humidifier with the CPAP, which require Pure Sine Wave, to allow the ceramic heater to work.

Hope all this helps.....

Cheers

Yes DSE = Dick Smith.

If you have a Tandy store nearby, they could probably get it in for you.....

DSE & Tandy is owned by the same people, strange, but true. You could just order thru the net. Don't know about Pure Sinewave smallewr than 300 watts though.

Cheers

Cross a Wolf with an Inverter, and you'll get........ Flow!!

(G'day all)

Indeed Wolfie, Kobi is a beaut. I was in Sth Dakota a few years ago and visited some people in the Black Hills who actually had a couple of white wolves in a big run on their property. Don't know how long they had them for or how they came to have them, but Kobi (and of course your nickname) reminded me of them. I have some beautiful photos, one of me actually touching noses with them, took the risk. It was a captivating experience but then I am a dog person anyway and love the bonding. Would love to send you a copy somehow (scan & email?, post?)

Also mate, your website has a great vibe to it already and I look forward to its development. Good on ya.

Jeremy.

Hey Wolfie - How is that hole digging going? Must be nearly finished by this eh? Sorry if you've already posted but I've been away for 8 weeks travelling the Cape - only been back a short while and didn't relish searching all the posts I've missed in the meantime.
Cheers

I've been using the Hella plugs for over twenty years now, removed all fag lighter plugs from everything, just use the Hella's.
You can with a bit of fiddling replace the in situ fag socket with a hella or arrid socket in most vehicles, much better.
The Arrids look like the way to go if you have to use something in someone elses vehicle.

Good point Peter. I am going away in someone else's vehicle in May next year, for 16 - 19 days.

Russell Guest's 16 day tour, should be a blast!

Cheers
